Budget 10-12k.

Need: reliability, ideally a good warranty, lower depreciation, no more than 4m long to fit on my drive.

Looking at a Toyota Yaris Design edition. 2017 model. 30k miles. Garage won't hold car past tm and I'm up the wall with exams do struggling to make a decision. This will be a cash purchase so a big deal for me as I can't get reasonable finance due student status / low income.

Can any yaris owners of this era give me the pros & cons of this era model before they release the car ftom my reservation? Please 🙏 I've given myself a migraine thinking about it on top of my exams!

The odometer broke on one of my Corsas at 210,000 miles, and I must have done at least another 10K before other more important bits broke and I had to say replace it.

I have an automatic one and love it.

I sadly put my first one through a hedge when a pheasant hit the windscreen on a country road and the second one went when I was using a company car and not really driving it.
My mum has one too, 2005. That ones going a bit green around the edges now but she won't be prised out of it. I keep trying.....sigh..... Grin

@MavisMcMinty budget 10-12k but ideally nearer to 10 the better as I'm taking money out of a pot for building works we need to finish but I'm not sure how much the building works are going to cost (long story, awful cowboy builders). So no idea what's actually spare. If any. But a car is essential & don't want to be changing soon after as there's a financial loss each time.

Search for ex-demo cars, great value, I’ve had two, both under a year old when I bought them, both had around 8,000 miles on the clock, and as demo cars they had all the bells and whistles too.

Did you find them at dealers or car supermarkets?

I searched online for ex-demo cars for sale, and both the ones I bought came from large dealerships.

Probably a bit late to help but our Yaris is 2002 T-sport model, still going strong and apart from basics like tyres and windscreen wipers we've not needed to pay out any large sums. It's first few years was spent commuting 80+ miles a day but has been a local runabout town in most recent years. We also have had it serviced every year and I think that helps with longevity. We're just now thinking about updating due to teens learning to drive and will be looking to get another Yaris.

@MavisMcMinty thanks for the idea

@Neversaygoodbye that'll be an emotional part ex! 21 yrs! Wow

@Eezee lol yes, we're really struggling with the decision as it's still happily chugging along.

Eezee · 03/07/2023 12:39

@Neversaygoodbye might be worth keeping as a run around for the kids depending how much / little is offered on a part ex if it's still a decent runner.

@Eezee I agree, it's something to consider.

Omg car ins on a 2017 yaris (not sports edition, just a bog standard one) just been quoted nearly £900 by current mainstream insurer! Full disclosure that includes legal protection & protected ncd of 9 yrs but no breakdown. I'm a safe driver, low mileage, no convictions. That price is insane.
