Temporary filling

I went to get my tooth extracted from my dentist on Friday, he basically said we can save the tooth with root canal but won't be able to do it till end of this month beginning of next, I agreed! He drilled my tooth down got as much stuff out as he could and put a temp filling in, when I went to receptionist to get booked in again she said she can't get me in till November 14th! I didn't dare moan as I know how busy the are. Well over the weekend I was in more pain I had to go to out of hours dentist at hospital where she started the first process of root canal (she didn't take the nerves out)
Thankfully I'm not in pain anymore. Only when I bite down, is that normal ?

I guess my question is am I being unreasonable to ask for a permanent filling for the 4 month wait for root canal ?

And is it normal to have pain when I bite down the day after filling?

Hey I had root canal completed last week after the first part of the process starting in April - so over 2 months wait. I’ve had 0 pain since last Wednesday but noticed intermittent pain over the past 2 months or so before the full procedure being completed so I just assumed some slight pain was normal before it being completed? I’m sorry your wait is so long. I was annoyed at a 2 month wait so 4 months would be really frustrating!

Yes, it's common to get pain when you bite down after a filling, and it usually means the filling is too high. Dentists usually ask you to grind your teeth together after a filling to check it fits, but your mouth is usually too numbed up to be able to tell.

Go and see your dentist, and they should be able to do the equivalent of sanding/filing the filling down to make it fit.

Usually, it only takes 5 minutes, and mine doesn't charge for it.

I don't know about 'normal', but I think it's reasonable for you to try to speak to dentist on phone to ask them if it's normal.

I can top that delay story, saw dentist in February, treatment won't start until November (I expect). Dentistry in this country is disaster.
