Should I go to a wedding in France next week?

LargeDeviation · 01/07/2023 21:10

Due to attend a wedding of a close friend about 40 miles north of Paris next week. Have booked (non-refundable) Eurostar and hotel rooms. Was planning to get a train between Gare du Nord and the small town where the wedding is.

I see rioters with automatic weapons and fireworks not just in Paris/Marseille, but even in small towns. They seem to be destroying anything vaguely linked to the French state includnig pharmacies, libraries etc as well as the usual burning of cars. Macron still hasn't declared a state of emergency.

Foreign office advice is ambiguous but doesn't advise against all or non-essential travel, so don't think travel insurance would pay out if I cancel.

Reported for what exactly? Tell me what was vile, disgusting or sickening. Please go ahead.
I called you out for your hyperbolic language and your answer is to multiply it threefold 🤦🏽‍♀️

What you don’t see are the many, many peaceful protests, often organised by the Mayors to make a stand against what happened.
The media love to show the violence and car bombs to dramatise, when in actual fact it’s mainly small disgruntled number of the population taking advantage of the situation to cause chaos.
It’s quietening down already and I’m certain you’ll be more than safe at a beautiful weddding 40 minutes outside of Paris.

No @ButterCrackers why don't you use your words and explain what you felt was disgusting, sickening and vile? It's you tossing those words at people so you explain for yourself.

Only you know what you found sickening vile and disgusting @ButterCrackers
I'm asking you to tell me what I said that fits that category? How you personally interpreted my post that could possibly have been construed as sickening

JudgeAnderson · 03/07/2023 22:20

OP are you going to go ahead and go? It does all seem to be a lot quieter now.

But OP without derailing further I hope if you decide to go that you have a lovely time and all is peaceful for you all ❤️

ummWTH · 03/07/2023 22:26

I'm not asking you to repeat my words @ButterCrackers because I know that nothing I said was sickening. I'm asking you to back up your own hyperbolic accusations. Only you know how you interpreted my words, MN did not call me sickening or vile or disgusting, that is why I'm asking you.

@ButterCrackers I suggest that you stop firing false accusations at people if you are unwilling/unable to back them up. Also try to use more appropriate language when referring to people.
And I'll repeat, MN did not call me sickening or vile or disgusting. That was you.

I asked very specifically why you have accused me with words such as "sickening" and "vile". Only you can answer that. You obviously can't so again, I suggest using more appropriate language when you are directing it at another person.

What a shame this thread has been derailed into nastiness by a poster who has nothing better to do than deliberately cause an argument.

I'd go. Rioting and striking are French hobbies. They all know what they're doing. You'll be fine.

Totally agree! This is something the French are almost professionally good at.

Ginmonkeyagain · 04/07/2023 08:34

@LargeDeviation if it helps we changed trains in Paris on 1 July (Gare du Nord to Gare de Lyon) it was fine, Paris was calm and we walked between the stations.

We then got a train south to Perpignan via Montpelier, Narbonne and Beziers. The only issue was a 50 min dely die to people on the track ojtside Narbonne - I do not know if that was related to the riots - probably not.

It has been perfectly calm here, a heavier police presence than I would normally expect. The only evidence of issues is some clearly recent graffiti on offcial buildings ("fuck the police - that sort of thing).
