To get out of work commitment late in pregnancy?

Not really an AIBU but posting for traffic and need opinions.

Im pregnant and due at the end of December. I’ve not told work yet but I’m due to run a training course the last week of November (I’ll be 35 weeks when the course takes place) and it’s my first baby.

The training course involves me staying in a hotel in central London (2 nights) and I’ll be about 3 hours away from home on public transport / at least 4 hours driving.

So far pregnancy has been fine but I’m
feeling a little uneasy being so far away from home that late on. WIBU to ask work if someone else can run the course? (They’ll need to source someone externally so not ideal).

YABU - suck it up, you’ll be fine, you’re worrying too much
YANBU - stay home just in case

Thank you!

Thanks all - I’m going to have a chat with them next week, explain the situation and gently suggest they find a replacement.

Theyre normally pretty accommodating so I’m hoping it’ll get agreed ok and I won’t need to escalate or anything.

It wholly depends on your pregnancy and isn't something you can predict. I would ask if they could bring it forward if not then they should go with another member of staff or outsource. I think it could come under a reasonable adjustment. I worked until 36 weeks with dd1 and ds, I should have got signed off much earlier due to pgp but soldiered on like an idiot. With dd2 I was signed off at 32 weeks because of fainting spells due to anaemia. Ypu just never know how it will gp so asking them to find an alternative solution is better than letting them down last minute.

Can they move the location of the course to somewhere near your home? Then a) if you are feeling fine then at least you are not having to travel and can go home at night to your own bed and b) if half way through the course you went into early Labour you would be near your local hospital.
