What has given you more energy?

Im early 40s and just wish I had more energy, I don’t really drink alcohol anymore but don’t feel it’s made a massive difference. I could definitely do more exercise but I find when I start exercising it makes me feel worse?! I regularly get 10000 steps in a day but im looking for other ways to try and increase my energy levels and just to feel good! I really should know this but would cutting out pasta help? What could I substitute it with?

I have far more energy when I eat low-carb. I don't think everyone is affected by it, but I am!

Sigmama · 01/07/2023 22:35

I have lots of energy, I make sure I get enough sleep, exercise, and walk and cycle every where and eat well

Ispywithmycynicaleye · 01/07/2023 22:41

I'm also early 40's and keto is the only thing that gave me so much energy. Took about 6 weeks before I experienced the energy boost I'd heard people talking about.

@Saracen I 100% agree with this. I love carbs but feel so much better when I havent eaten them and definitely have more energy.

Get your blood tested. It could be a vitamin d or iron deficiency. I’ve had both and they made me feel so tired. Supplements made all the difference.

mortgagequandary · 01/07/2023 22:50

B12 jabs!!

Exercise

CC4712 · 01/07/2023 22:53

I agree with others that I'd be getting a blood test done. Thyroid, Vit D deficiency, anaemia, peri could all cause these symptoms. Get it checked OP.

More sleep is what gives me more energy!

Iron supplements have really helped me.

caringcarer · 01/07/2023 23:15

I've lost 3 stone in weight and have so much more energy. I wish I did it sooner.

AtomicBlondeRose · 01/07/2023 23:17

Much as it fucking pains me to say it, exercise, sleep and less sugar helps. Which is boring as hell. But true. However it’s very hard to exercise when you’re knackered and thus the vicious circle begins. 20 minutes of walking a day helps to start. Then run a bit. It’s tedious but it does work.

Oh how I wish it was wine and chips that helped!

Furrybutts · 01/07/2023 23:18

Fasting is the only thing that works for me.

I have regular B12 injections which are great, but the difference I feel when I fast has been life changing.

Ejismyf · 01/07/2023 23:20

Loads of water and a sachet of spatone every day without fail.

M0lly10 · 01/07/2023 23:24

Doing something you love

AtomicBlondeRose · 01/07/2023 23:25

Oh yeah, fasting works too. Yay, another fun-free thing!

BarelyLiterate · 01/07/2023 23:37

More sleep, but not too much. 6.5 to 7 hours a night is optimal for me. I’m not a morning person, so I don’t set my alarm for earlier than 0745 unless I absolutely have to.
Less caffeine. More healthy natural food. Less crap processed food. Much less booze. Keeping my weight stable at a sensible level. More exercise, particularly long walks & bike rides in the countryside. All of which sounds incredibly boring. But it works for me.

garfieldeatscake · 01/07/2023 23:59

Cutting out refined sugar, upping my fluid intake I'm absolutely shit at drinking water and going to bed at 10:00 pm, But it's so bloody hard and takes a good few days for my energy levels to pick up.
I should be asleep now but blinking perimeno causes insomnia, which then increases my sugar cravings (the next day) and seems to decrease my ability to keep my fluids up....I know I don't drink enough due to the colour of my wee...sorry for the over sharing!
