to expect 100% cotton bedding in any AirBnb or holiday cottage rental?

LindorDoubleChoc · 01/07/2023 19:54

Inspired by another thread tonight.

I recently stayed in an AirBnb in Scotland. The bedding was polycotton and although it wasn't mega hot in that city, I really was uncomfortable sleeping in a polycotton bed. Even though the sheets were obviously new and not bobbly, the heat factor was horrible.

Who even uses polycotton now?

Unreasonable. Ask before you go if that's a requirement for you.

Same. Get a grip OP.

Strangely enough many people do not sleep in 100 per cent cotton. I think if you have very specific requirements you should check. Many more expensive air bnb do have posh bedding and towels but I wouldn't assume it to be the case.

Infusionist · 01/07/2023 20:04

Plenty of people use polycotton! Or did you think it was in the shops just for fun?

StayAnonn · 01/07/2023 20:05

Well you can expect whatever you want.

My expectation is that you're highly likey to be disappointed.

SnackSizeRaisin · 01/07/2023 20:06

Surely everyone uses polycotton. Not the really cheap slidey one but a mostly cotton one is fine, I don't find it sweaty.

drpet49 · 01/07/2023 20:06

Depends how much you paid. More expensive the more luxurious I would expect for bed sheets, towels etc

Badbudgeter · 01/07/2023 20:06

I think lots of cheaper places use poly cotton as it doesn’t need the same ironing. I think an Airbnb is more bc likely to wash their own linen/ have poly cotton than a bigger place who will often rent linen (cotton of different grades) from a laundry place.

PurplePear7 · 01/07/2023 20:07

I’ve never even owned 100% cotton bedding 😂

yogasaurus · 01/07/2023 20:08

ReviewingTheSituation · 01/07/2023 20:08

I would assume bedding would be polycotton in most SC places - if you shop somewhere mainstream, like Next, you'll find it's all polycotton. It's easier to launder, and cheaper, so I can see why holiday let owners use it.

If you're in a 'posh' SC place, I would expect nicer bedding though.

I guess lots of people wouldn't notice - if you have polycotton at home, then you wouldn't think twice about it when you're away.

greenacrylicpaint · 01/07/2023 20:09

for a rental I would expect sheets and covers that are/can be professiknally laundered. i.e. 100% cotton

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 01/07/2023 20:10

I’m with you OP. I hate polycotton, would never buy it. Never had it in any hotel I’ve stayed in either. Horrible stuff.

MiniTheMinx · 01/07/2023 20:11

I've been known to pack my own pillow cases, and even take my own pillow. Can't sleep on foam and polyester. I don't generally suffer from feeling hot, but a combination of foam and polyester makes me feel like my head is boiling.

But obviously plenty of people buy polycotton or else it wouldn't be available to buy.

Peony654 · 01/07/2023 20:13

YABU. Ask/check in advance if it’s important. I had to actually check my own bedding to see what it was - had no idea

Kwackerly · 01/07/2023 20:14

Gobsmacked by the polycotton love

100% Cotton available from ikea and v cheap?? Is it really thought of as luxury?

PickySlackTastic · 01/07/2023 20:14

I’m with you @LindorDoubleChoc

Im slightly stunned by the idea that 100% cotton is a rarified luxury. I’ve only ever bought 100% cotton and pick up cheap sets easily in Sainsburys and IKEA.

I don’t ‘love’ polycotton, it just tends to be cheaper and doesn’t need ironing. I haven’t got the time, energy or inclination to iron bedding. Polycotton doesn’t offend me, so I buy it.

wildfirewonder · 01/07/2023 20:16

Confused Obviously loads of people use polycotton, as it is widely sold.

If 100% cotton is a requirement for you, check.

LindorDoubleChoc · 01/07/2023 20:16

I would rather have unironed bedding than polycotton! Also gobsmacked that it still exists in hospitality.

I'm piss poor and all my bedding is 100% cotton. It's really not that expensive.

No one said cotton is a rarified luxury. Just that many people happily have polycotton bedding.
