If you can’t get nursery places to go back to work

How are families going to survive on one wage?

presently it’s proving impossible to find a nursery place on the days work want

which means not being able to return to work…?

Why is it all on you. Can't your DH work make arrangements to suit DH?

Hi on waiting list. I'm sure your work would rather keep you and amend until you can get childcare rather than drop you completely?

Childminder?

Danikm151 · 01/07/2023 11:29

Expand your nursery search area. Are there any near your workplaces? or on the way.

Childminder is an option too

I guess people look outside their preferred area. Would you consider a nursery near your place of work instead of near your home for example?

Or childminders, reciprocal arrangements with friends, family?

Or go back to employer with days you can get a nursery place and see if they can be flexible?

LoisPrice · 01/07/2023 12:43

father works for himself away from home 6 days a week sometimes 7

mother works from home

Trying to find childminder and alternative nurseries - but struggling to find any with spaces. If I gp any further afield it'll be hard to start work on time

Get yourself on as many waiting lists as possible, look into childminders also. I am having the same issue right now.

electriclight · 01/07/2023 13:08

You imply that you can find childcare but not on the days work want. Would they be flexible rather than lose you? Or a later start to facilitate a nursery drop off that's further away than you'd ideally like? Returning parents at our place always negotiate this sort of stuff.

LoisPrice · 01/07/2023 13:18

I think all these things are going to have to be considered, later starts earlier finishes days etc. Days can only be changed slightly due to the nature of the work as Mondays and Fridays are very slack days - these are the days nurseries seem to have which wouldn't be any use really for my work place.

I also think if it was full time then it may not be such an issue...

Yes going to get on waiting lists for nanny, childminder and other nurseries
