Are you good at relaxing? If so , what do you do to relax?!

I spend so much time in the evenings scrolling on my phone, I’m sure I could be using the time better to properly relax - do most people enjoy relaxing? What do you do when you relax?!

Meditation, breathwork reading

BlameItOnTheGoose · 30/06/2023 13:48

I find scrolling to be quite relaxing!

Other than that:

  • reading on the sofa
  • cooking/baking while listening to Radio 4
  • going for a walk
  • doing the crossword
  • tending to my houseplants
  • drinking wine in front of the telly

We've got a window that looks over the garden, I spend a lot of time on the new reclining sofa staring at the flowers and the bees - occasionally accompanied by the cat or dog.

Or sitting on the garden bench listening to the bees.

I've just bought a hammock - so it's obviously started raining - but when it stops raining I intend to lie in the hammock and look at the clouds and listen to the bees.

Paint my nails while watching Youtube
Game (in bed, on the Switch)
Read a book

I find having a drink and/or lighting a candle adds to the relaxing atmosphere.

AffIt · 30/06/2023 13:55

I'm not particularly good at relaxing, but the one thing that does reliably calm me is being outdoors or around nature - going for a walk, tending to my houseplants, doing a bit of gardening, playing with my animals, even some outdoor maintenance or DIY.

I'm active but restful at the same time, IYSWIM: it seems to help my brain enter a sort of 'fugue state' that I can't access from the likes of yoga or meditation.

RabbitsRock · 30/06/2023 14:09

Playing the piano

WickedSerious · 30/06/2023 14:12

I flake out in the conservatory with the dog and a very large G&T.

Funkyslippers · 30/06/2023 14:27

Watch TV with my back massager & camomile tea

HarpyValley · 30/06/2023 14:30

Scrolling is relaxing to me!

Otherwise I read, listen to music, play a computer game, listen to a podcast, binge watch a box set, flick through Rightmove spending my surely-imminent lottery win millions...I'm very good at doing very little.

Happyfluffball · 30/06/2023 14:31

I do pilates, play some piano, arrange the house so it looks nice.

mightymam · 30/06/2023 18:56

Going to the gym- it's the only 'me' time I get.

Anjelika · 30/06/2023 19:21

I watch TV, read or do crosswords and number puzzles. I find faffing on my phone quite relaxing too though.

MyMachineAndMe · 30/06/2023 19:21

Writing a diary/journal with the radio on in the background
Embroidery or knitting
Watching TV or playing on the PS

I love to read. But only really get into it when on holiday.

Gardening, reading, learning a new language (Duolingo app so phone but not scrolling) or listening to music. Also love a good binge boxset

IheardYouButDontWantToAnswer · 30/06/2023 19:28

I'm good at relaxing. I do these -

Listen to music
Read books
Do puzzle books
Paint or draw
Ring friends
Watch a good film or drama
Bake a cake
Sort out drawers
Do the ironing
Play card games or chess with my husband
Look at old photos (actual printed photos)

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 30/06/2023 19:34

Refilling jars of pasta ect.
Folding towels/sheets/laundry
Reading books from my childhood (I'm an academic, so need to read something that I don't have to 'think' about to relax)
Wrap presents
Crafting with DD
Walking Ds in buggy
Sitting with DH in silence having a cup of coffee on Shabbos morning

Fairislefandango · 30/06/2023 19:43

(Apart from lots of scrolling) I read, knit, crochet, spin (on a spinning wheel), do cryptic crosswords, learn a new language, listen to podcasts.

WomanOfSteel · 30/06/2023 19:44

I leave dh downstairs with the kid/s and have an hour to myself upstairs in my bedroom like I’m still a teenager. I can be doing anything I’m in the mood for - reading, sorting clothes out, painting toenails, texting friends, watching tv. It doesn’t matter. It gives my brain a chance to chill out.

Notateacheranymore · 30/06/2023 19:50

I knit, bake, read but most of all I procrastinate about doing those things whilst scrolling and binge watching something.

hettiethehare · 30/06/2023 19:55

I'm brilliant at relaxing - it's the get up and go I sometimes lack!

To relax I read, listen to music, do yoga, watch tv, sort through and rearrange my beauty products stash, go to art exhibitions and eat cake.

Youdoyoubabe · 30/06/2023 20:08

Have a bath..... I used to be relaxed when I was younger now 1 day out of 2 I am angsty as anything it is horrible.
