To think instant communication makes us too impatient?

Lighthearted. IABU I know.

DS (secondary school) is currently abroad on a residential with school. Great opportunity, very pleased he can go etc.

Sensible, sociable child, hopefully will have a fantastic time. First time abroad without parents.

Left on Wednesday and heard nothing from him since (he has his phone). School have updated to say they've arrived, settling in but since yesterday no communication.

I get it, taking a load of school children away even if they are older, doesn't leave much time for updating impatient parents!

I last travelled properly when instant communication was not a thing. It was Internet cafes or international phone calls scheduled at mutually convenient times. No WhatsApp etc.

So AIBU to think the ability to have contact at all times has spoilt us? I wouldn't want him to be constantly updating me but checking in occasionally would be welcome!

Reminds me of when I used to go on residential trips in the 90's

Our parents were given a 'telephone tree' - in case of emergency. The school would call one parent, who would then phone two parents, who each phoned two further parents and so on and so forth!
I don't remember ever ringing home either...
How times have changed.
