It should not pound out if your chest for extensive periods. It should slow down if you relax.

Try splashing cold water over your face for a couple of minutes also on your wrists. And deep slow breathing. Hold it in for a few seconds then let it out slowly.
It's a horrible feeling and I hope it calms down soon

You gently keep filling your lungs until the pressure of them in your chest acts on your heart to revert to a normal beat. After that, you exhale and then take a slow deep breath in and release it as you do when you are asleep. Lengthen the time between breaths with your lungs empty and this mimics sleeping breathing and will relax you. It works on the vagus nerve to stop release of cortisol also.

Dunk your face in really cold water

then tomorrow start taking the full rda of magnesium and calcium supplements and cut out all caffeine, any drugs/weed and drink lots of water. If it keeps on going after a few days then try and see your GP

Breathe in for 4 seconds.
Hold for 4 seconds.
Breathe out for 4 seconds.
Hold for 4 seconds.

Repeat for a few minutes.

The cold water tip is really useful. Apparently it activates the 'diver's reflex' which helps us not drown when we hit cold water. It's really good to help with anxiety and stress related palpitations. I'm the same tonight if it's any consolation x

Download the headspace app and do their breathing and some meditation. You can access some of it for free.

I do the ABC game to distract : pick a room, place, theme etc and find something in it / related to it for each letter of the alphabet.

you can then try grounding yourself- stomp your feet, clap your hands, shake your limbs etc.

but I agree, if you feel like your heart is going that fast you probably should seek medical attention.

If its been happening for a while get your thyroid checked too. Also my 1st symptoms of an over active thyroid.

I’m so sorry for late update. I have been really stressed and upset lately about Dad’s cancer diagnosis, always arguing with husband and financial situation.

I fell asleep eventually and decided not to look at my phone. I went and sat outside for 10 minutes and it soon slowed.
