Have just lost it totally with two car drivers, my ds(profoundly deaf) and I have just been to get him some new shoes, we came out of the shop and were standing on the edge of the crossing(obviously wanting to cross) not one but two cars went sailing over the crossing!!!!!!!!!1 I did shout (didnt swear) at them something along the lines of "You are supposed to stop you idiots" and shook my fist at them! Really made me mad as Im very strict with my ds about crossing the road because of his deafness. I really hope they saw me shaking my fist at them silly b....ers!!!

I always wait until I can see that the traffic has stopped as I am profoundly deaf and I can't rely on hearing cars! Also, when waiting for the green man, I do get a few smirks from twats people nipping across when its red but I just can't chance it!

What I find difficult as a driver though, is people walking by a zebra crossing and their body language gives no indication that they are going to turn and wait to cross and then the suddenly lunge out and expect you to stop, that makes me jump...and brake..obviously.....

mrsruffallo · 23/02/2008 21:19

They are not obliged to, but it is only polite isn't it?

ScruffyTeddy · 23/02/2008 21:22

It is polite yes.

Different scenario, my ex dp would pull out of turnings if he thought he had waited too long because "they have to stop dont they?"

Fine, but sometimes people cant.

It doesnt matter who is right or wrong.

winestein · 23/02/2008 21:24

They are obliged to stop CantSleep, but it's down to timings.

[I bore myself sometimes]

PussinJimmyChoos · 23/02/2008 21:26

Hello Puss! So glad you like it - they are brilliant, aren't they!

mandymac · 23/02/2008 22:10

Hello Winestein

Fancy finding you on a road safety type thread .

I am about to head off to bed, but wanted to say hi and lets have another evening out soon. Or even get together with the toddlers.

Sorry for hijack!

winestein · 23/02/2008 22:13

Oh, I know - I really do bore myself, but glad I don't bore you MM! Deffo up for another night out or toddler clash! Will email

Woollymummy · 23/02/2008 22:20

YANBU. Similar thing happened to me at a set of traffic lights, I waited for the green man, checked both ways just in case, and then a car coming from my right overtook the three cars waiting for me and drove right through the crossing while we were already on the road. I managed to stop in time but he would have killed my DD in her buggy if I hadn't. Bloody awful. I froze and had to be pulled backwards off the road in shock by one of the drivers who jumped out to help. There were tonnes of witnesses but he was driving so fast none of us could get a look at him or his number. Horrible f*ing drivers.

PussinJimmyChoos · 23/02/2008 22:26

Winestein - are you a traffic warden or something?

winestein · 23/02/2008 22:36

Puss, it's not the first time I have been accused of being a traffic warden on MN and I will forgive you as you are nice... but just this once

But the answer is no. If you want my full title I am a Traffic and Road Safety Consultant. If you want the abbreviated version, I am Dull as Dishwater

PussinJimmyChoos · 23/02/2008 22:42

I did put 'or something' to cover myself!!

Can you tell me why zebra crossings always seem to be placed just after a mini roundabout then? I find it a total bugger to concentrate on a roundabout and then just as I'm coming of, checking my mirrors, indicating etc - bang (not literally!!) there is a zebra crossing! Often wondered why that was?

winestein · 23/02/2008 22:53

Oh, really! Give me a hard one, please!

It's simply because mini roundabouts are at a junction where vehicles change direction. Pedestrians also change directions at junctions (i.e. cross the road) and as such the conflict between peds and vehicles is high and often priority crossing features are needed.

That said, I am wary of the interaction of priority junctions when I am doing my work. They can cause a lot of problems but it is always a balance between different needs.

PussinJimmyChoos · 23/02/2008 22:55

Well I've always wondered and so has DH - I'm actually quite chuffed I've found out now - and I'm not being sarky either!

Thank you

PussinJimmyChoos · 23/02/2008 22:56

As for a hard question - why are so many of the roadworkers so minging? Can we at least, when having new traffic systems being installed, have attractive bum cleavages to drool at .....

winestein · 24/02/2008 10:13

Glad to have been of assistance!

Can't help you with the sweaty bum crack problem though. It upsets me too [vomit]

elkiedee · 24/02/2008 12:02

The roundabout and zebra connection's also quite useful for pedestrians to know about, thanks puss and winestein for question and answer. It's useful to know what the risk is from drivers who, unlike Puss, probably aren't concentrating.
