Does a UK national need a passport to travel with BA to Dublin?

Hi all, sorry just having a panic as have a work trip to Dublin in next couple of weeks (albeit not booked yet) and my UK passport has expired. I'm only flying LHR to DUB and return same day.

I will contact BA to check but MN always gives a good steer. Does a UK national need a passport for this?

Also, I wasn't born in the UK, in case that makes any difference.

TIA :)

Was about 5 years ago that I travelled there, but went on my drivers license.

You do need photo ID, but I don't believe you need a passport for Dublin.

No.

Reinga · 29/06/2023 10:06

Please be aware that some airlines require a valid passport regardless of where you are travelling to.

This from the BA website
https://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/information/passports-visas-and-api
No
"For flights between the UK and Republic of Ireland

If you are a citizen of the UK or Republic of Ireland who was born in that country you do not need a passport to travel between the two countries but you do require some form of photographic identification, such as a driving licence.

All other travellers require a valid passport to travel between the two countries."

Check with BA but it looks as if your not being born in the UK makes a difference.

Do you have UK citizenship? If you do then you can go on a driver's license, if you don't then you can't. Email/live chat with BA now.

whodawhodaeho · 29/06/2023 10:14

No, just photo ID so long as you're a UK national. I fly to Dublin all the time with my driving licence.

whodawhodaeho · 29/06/2023 10:16

Your nationality won't make a difference if you are a UK citizen but if all else fails you can fly into Belfast, get the train to Dublin, and fly out of Dublin.

Ryanair insist on a passport between UK and Ireland. BA and Aer Lingus who share the route/planes will accept a drivers licence.

ClareBlue · 29/06/2023 10:30

It might say no passport required on the gov websites but the actual issue is the airline. Ryanair only permits passports. You can not insist on anything else as it is at their discretion. Aerlingus and BA accept non passport ID but it has to be gov issued. You also might be delayed at passport control if you don't have the passport that can be scanned, but you'll get through OK.

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 29/06/2023 11:11

It literally says she's travelling BA.

Why are people posting other airline rules? She doesn't care.

PrueRamsay · 29/06/2023 11:13

OP wasn’t born in UK so I think that makes a difference.

Where were you born OP?
