Car insurance slow to fix car? AIBU?

at the end of May I was hit by another driver - I was going along the main road, she pulled out of a side road, crossed a lane of traffic and hit my drivers side rear door and bumper. I’m 100% not at fault and her insurance company agreed that on the same day.

now the fun starts - the insurance company is taking forever to sort out repairs! I spoke to them yesterday and they still haven’t agreed a quote with the garage. I got a bit cross with them yesterday because it’s always ‘oh so-and-so isn’t available I will leave a message’. Meanwhile I’m still driving round with a car I can’t open the drivers side rear door! My MOT is due in a month and it won’t pass like this.

AIBU in thinking this is taking too long? I’ve never had a car accident before so this is all new to me.

Ask them for a list of approved repair garages, get your own quote and get it done.

If it was 100% the other drivers fault then you should get a courtesy car paid for by their insurance? Ask your insurance

It will be a problem with getting the parts. Combination of brexit and the war in Ukraine reducing the amount. certain raw materials available means that spare parts for cars are in very short supply.

You car goes on waiting list, but due to the crap brexit trade deal rather than being in the exact parts needed car companies have to bring in a mix of parts every time. So if the need 10 steering wheels they can't just bring those they have to have 1 steering wheel, a sumo, a floor, a side panel etc.

Yes, probably due to parts being out of stock. I hope it’s fixed soon OP.

I think that's poor. In comparison, I was hit by another driver on 7th June with similar damage, driver front door and front wing. (I refused to drive it as the door wouldn't open properly).

I had a hire car on the 8th courtesy of the other driver's insurance. My car was collected for repair on the 16th, and returned on 21st.

My car is 100% fixed, but without detail stickers at the moment (go faster stripes I wouldn't have chosen if buying brand new lol) and the repair company will collect my car a second time when the stickers are in.

I've been very impressed and it's taken the sting out of the whole situation. Sorry you've not had the same.

My car was hit by someone who admitted fault. It's a very common model but took 3 months to fix due to lack of parts.
