WWYD with neighbours mail?

Have lived at my property about 2 years, there is a lot of land behind my house where my neighbours have built their house and then got their address. So say i am 20 they are 20A, but they also have a house name so technically the address is 'Holly house, 20A such and such road'
I've always received post meant for them, always addressed to my address no.20. I assumed this is a common mistake with similar addresses and at first i would either take round to them (not just a nip next door thing as their property is set right back from mine and they have dogs roaming the property which makes me uneasy) or if i see them walking past i would tell them the post had come to my address again.

But now i'm getting bored of it, the post never has their address on it (especially the house name which would ensure it went to the right place!) I've told them we keep getting their post, I've sent some bits back saying not at this address usually when I've had an influx of post which has driven me mad.
Funnily enough i never get any parcels, but i get plenty of hospital/medical looking letters which must be important so why not just change the address!!
AIBU to be annoyed?!

At this point, I'd bin it.

I agree. You've told them. Just rip it up and bin it......and think no more about it.

I know people will say that's illegal, but sod them.

FlounderingFruitcake · 28/06/2023 16:00

Oh I had something like this. Guy in the house behind had giant locked gates, wasn’t even there most of the time as he worked away and had a holiday home but point blank refused to get any sort of mailbox. I just used to bin it.

Fraaahnces · 28/06/2023 16:00

Why don’t you RTS them, bundle them all and hand them back to the postie

CC4712 · 28/06/2023 21:02

I know this is a bit out there, and may well be a PITA, but it may well stop things eventually. Our neighbours changed the name of their house and said it was actually quiet easy to do. What about changing your house to a name: 'Lolos', 'Lololow lodge' etc? You'd have to notify all your contacts though and might just be too much hastle.

Another option: put a sign on your postbox 'NOT Mr/Mrs House at Back' or NO post for MR/Mrs house at back'

RTS- Wrong address, try 20AAAAAAAAAAAA

WeAreTheHeroes · 28/06/2023 21:11

We have a very similar address to our next door neighbours. Our regular postie knows who is at which house. Those covering or who do a day a week don't. Ours is the first front door you come to so we often get post for them. Both addresses are correctly registered. Just educate your post person. If you've no way of dropping things into next door then bung it in a bag and hang it on the gate. It's not worth getting in a twist over.

I've lost count of how many times their takeaway has been delivered to us - we just point the delivery person round the back to their door.

NutellaNut · 28/06/2023 21:46

Stick it back in the post box marked ‘Return to sender, not known at this address’ every time. Maybe that will incentivise them to contact the senders if they miss something important. Not your responsibility to chase after them with their post.

Soapyspuds · 28/06/2023 22:10

Back in the post box. Not known at this address.

FanFanBam · 28/06/2023 22:16

Cross through the address.

Write “not at this address, please return to sender”.

Put back in the post box when you pass one.

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 28/06/2023 22:26

I would cross through "20 such and such street" and write "try Holly house 20a such and such street" then pop it into a post box next time you are passing one. They should get it eventually but hopefully the delay will be annoying enough for them to make the effort to ensure they advise people of their correct address.

Beenawhilesinceacupoftea · 28/06/2023 22:35

Yes - put the correct address on it and resend it

and if that doesn’t make them update their address then return to sender

TheRussiansAreComing · 28/06/2023 22:49

Just bin it.

Or steal their identity.

croft89 · 28/06/2023 23:04

I'd put letters in the bin

Writing RTS then posting them is taking time out of your day

Cirice · 28/06/2023 23:16

You can buy a stamp that says not known at this address.
the woman who lived in my house nine years ago still hasn’t updated her bank details. I tried RTS, I handed straight back to postie, I stamped RTS with the little rubber stamp and handed them back, I contacted the bank. Still they come, every month. If it’s our regular postie he takes them back and doesn’t post through, but if any do come they go straight in the bin now.

Fraaahnces · 28/06/2023 23:58

Also write “No mail X and X at this address pls. They live at 20A.” and put it on your letterbox.

luckylavender · 29/06/2023 08:51

Dreamer8 · 28/06/2023 13:10

Hand it all back to the postie and let them sort it.

How many people actually physically see their postie? Even if you're at home.

CurlewKate · 29/06/2023 08:58

Shove it in a bag. Once a week take the bag and hang it on their gate. Text to say you've done it.

Humidititties · 29/06/2023 09:03

Nope, I wouldn't do this, it won't give them any incentive to sort this out

CurlewKate · 29/06/2023 10:27

@Humidititties "Nope, I wouldn't do this, it won't give them any incentive to sort this out"

<shrugs> I just like an easy life. I seriously couldn't be bothered to go through all the rigmaroles some people are suggesting. What's easiest for me? Do that.
(anyone who says just throwing it away would be easier-well possibly marginally. But I wouldn't choose to live with potentially throwing away something vital or precious because a fellow human being is crap at admin.)

Lololow · 29/06/2023 20:46

@CurlewKate I don't think I could ever just throw them away because I would feel guilty if they'd missed an appointment or something. But I also feel bad returning them to sender incase its something important too 🤣 I just can't win but I'm fed up of taking letters to them!

I have a very similar situation, we live at number 2 and the next house on the post walk is a number 2 in the next road

I had next doors post regularly until I befriended the Postie on our round and explained the situation which was exacerbated by me being disabled so not always able to take post round

Over the years he has reminded others of the situation and now it only happens if we have cover or new posties on the route

Chat with your regular, he can leave a note on your round to remind others of the issue but be nice because they really are having a bad time at the moment

WellWellWellWhatHaveWeHeree · 29/06/2023 21:11

Put a note on your letterbox saying 'only surnames X to be delivered to this address- all other surnames belong af 20A' that might help the postie.

MavisMcMinty · 29/06/2023 21:17

I’d ask 20A to get their mail redirected for as long as it takes them to change their address with all those still writing to them at No.20. It’s really irritating.

I had a terrible, horrible lodger, and when he left I asked if he wanted to give me a forwarding address should any of his mail arrive here. Oh no, he said, he’d got his mail redirected already, no need for ME to have his new address.

Oh dear, wrong decision, his Glastonbury campervan parking permit arrived here a week later.

CurlewKate · 29/06/2023 21:18

@Lololow I absolutely agree. That's why I think chuck everything into a bag then hang it on their gate once a week.

WestOfWestminster · 29/06/2023 21:36

They've had a long time to change it, you've alerted them to the issue, I don't think i'd blame you if you just put them all in the bin.

IDontWantToBeAPie · 29/06/2023 23:15

Reject it when posted or chuck it at their door
