To eat this sandwich?

Bought lunch in preparation for tomorrow and got a pre packaged sandwich. Forgot to check the date and it has a use by date of today. It's chicken so will it be safe ? I have IBS so want to be careful.

Yes if its todays date its absolutely fine. Smile

Lacucuracha · 28/06/2023 11:24

Eat it, cooking it extends the life of the chicken.

Cakeorchocolate · 28/06/2023 11:24

Eat it whichever day you want it. A day late will be fine.

Yes to the date on the pack. It’s already cooked on purchase.

I think if you’ve in’s I’d avoid. I’d eat it but I don’t have ibs,

RachelNoire · 28/06/2023 11:28

If it smells okay eat it, if it doesn’t, don’t.

Evolution eh?

Peony654 · 28/06/2023 11:41

Of course you can. Those dates are a scam anyway. And those sandwiches are so processed, it would be fine in a week

FeelingwearyFeeelingsmall · 28/06/2023 11:51

I'd eat it today, tomorrow or Friday without thinking. Saturday or Sunday I'd give it a sniff first.

veryfluffyfluff · 28/06/2023 11:52

How has it been stored? Fridge? Bag?

Okshacky · 28/06/2023 11:53

If you use it by today why wouldn’t it be ok???

Because they want to eat it tomorrow? As per the OP

I’d do this (don’t know much about IBS, though)

SunsetsInVenice · 28/06/2023 11:54

I bought it today in preparation for tomorrow forgetting to check the dates.

I would if its been in the fridge since purchase. But not a day longer.

Presumably you don't use antibiotics or have any vaccinations then?

It'll probably be fine OP but use by dates are technically about food safety and not quality so...

inappropriateraspberry · 28/06/2023 11:57

It's cooked chicken and sealed in the packaging. As long as it's kept in the fridge overnight, it'll be fine tomorrow.

Bromptotoo · 28/06/2023 12:00

IME there's enough latitude in use by dates, never mind best before, to not worry too much about 24hrs provided the product is sealed and/or refrigerated.

No IBS but I've had my share of runs from what was almost certainly chicken. In each instance it was cooked stuff like a curry or pie served from a buffet in a cafe or works canteen. Not kept hot but instead tepid - ideal temp for bugs/toxins.

Never had anything I'm aware of being triggered by a properly chilled sarnie.

Common sense says it will be absolutely fine.

SunsetsInVenice · 28/06/2023 18:56

Fingers crossed then, thanks all.
