Working 7 days

One of the managers at my job said i've made enough money doing 7 days at my two job and I thought it was a bit unfair
I can't survive on one job alone. I'm the lowest paid full time staff in the business and my pay has barely gone up in 5 years while others make close to double(which is their skill level)

I guess I need to make a choice- it's decision time- 2 jobs or one job that pays better but I found it a bit disingenuous

I'm in a role that looks very middle class outside but on the whole I make close to NMW. I've met people doing warehouse jobs who make more

I didn’t fully understand the beginning of your post. However if you are only just making over NMW I think look for an alternative jobs, shouldn’t e too hard to find something higher paid if they are paying the minimum.

Have you asked for a raise? Or asked what you can do to upskill and get a raise?

PushmePull · 27/06/2023 17:56

I can't follow this at all. You want to work 7 days a week, at 2 jobs, both in the same company? What is the manager actually suggesting?

Nowvoyager99 · 27/06/2023 17:59

Yes it isn’t very clear what’s going on.

Do you have two roles at the same organisation? Or is your second job totally separate? In which case it’s probably none of their business.

Has your manager told you that you have to give up one of your jobs?

bctf123 · 27/06/2023 18:14

I have two jobs- 9-5 and a weekend one. The manager suggested I give up one

I have asked for a raise but got a weird response from the director and my supervisor said I need to do more/take on more responsibility like her...thing is she could move her stuff onto me to move ahead. I can't pass things to anyone and also I am now doing double the workload from 5 years ago without reflection in job title or salary. I am also now training a third person in the team

I should add the company is profitable and the division hugely so. I can't see the obstacle to paying me more so it's upto me to stay, stay and do two jobs, or leave the company

What the fuck is it to do with your manager at your week job what you do at the weekends?

Is there a backstory here?

Nowvoyager99 · 27/06/2023 18:45

Is the weekend job with the same company?

They have a legal duty of care under the working time directive.

Depends on whether OP has opted out or not.

Depends on whether OP has opted out or not.

Can’t opt out of weekly/fortnightly rest breaks.

LongRoadtoNowhere · 27/06/2023 19:35

Definitely have a look on the market and see what’s out there. It doesn’t seem as though they value you very much in your current role, and that will wear you down over time.

SophieStew · 27/06/2023 19:44

That depends on what she’s doing over 17 weeks and overall working patterns. No point in going down that rabbit hole. Loads of people work 7 days in NHS.

@bctf123 can you explain more. Are both jobs with same employer? What has manager actually said?

SophieStew · 27/06/2023 19:45

Sorry, that was in response to @AmITooOldToDoThis

bctf123 · 27/06/2023 21:13

I have two jobs with two employers

The manager was not ordering me but strongly advising informally but I felt it was not his business. It's easy for him to say I've made a lot but I've spent many years out of work and am the lowest paid here. He on the other hand has spent 15 years earning a high wage and living free with elderly parents

I don't see how he can understand my costs at all

PurplePear7 · 27/06/2023 21:17

Can you look for other jobs where you are fairly remunerated for the work you do?

Also some jobs won’t allow you to have another job but I guess that isn’t true for you.

I'm treated well and don't get much hassle even if I make mistakes. I assume this is because I keep things from escalating and handle a lot of difficult colleagues
But other times I realise I'm more dispensable than I thought
I discussed my workload some months ago and got a very flat response about my sale volume being the same. I spoke to someone else today who's quite high up in accounts who said my volume had doubled in the 5 years

OP posts:
Qat · 28/06/2023 08:18

He's advising you to leave and find a better paid role elsewhere. Which you should do as you are not being suitably remunerated in your present role.

BHRK · 28/06/2023 08:20

I think you need to look for a better paying job
