To be sick and tired of this rotator cuff shoulder pain?

2 months ago I dislocated my arm and cracked the humerus. Fracture has healed but all the muscles, tendons are fucked (which I believe is the technical term!). It's been 8 weeks now and pain just getting worse and worse. So far today I've taken 2 paracetamol, 2 nurofen and 30mg of codeine and its still just grinding away. I have a wheat bag on it, I'm doing the exercises as prescribed by physio. Sleeping laying down is impossible. The only thing differently I've done is that yesterday I went for a 3k walk because if I have to do nothing for any longer I will go mad. It's a dull ache like toothache.

My dh and dcs are sick of me moaning about it. Just posting for sympathy really and on the off-chance anyone else has had this and is now back swimming front crawl or weightlifting or something.

Suffering with my shoulder since feb when my dog suddenly lunged forward and immediately lunged to my right as a dog barked in the house i was passing. It’s been hell…gp said frozen shoulder, refer to physio. Waited weeks and no appt so decided to go private. She diagnosed a subacromial impingement (something to do with rotator cuff). Gave me exercises which I cant do because of the pain! Finally have an appt with NHS physio on Monday so let’s see how I get on! Im taking 8-500 cocodamols which barely touch the pain and OTC ibuprofen. Think i need to get back to gp for something like voltarol or naproxen and maybe up the co-codamols to 15 or 30-500. It’s bloody miserable and the nights are awful. Wish I could go braless but with my 32H boobs I need the support!

I wiggle into a pull on bra by stepping into it!

Or do it up at the front and twist round. OR wear a sports bra that has a zip front.

Had a bone scan this morning as this is my third break in 12 years.

Not the same thing but my mum had frozen shoulder for years and was in so much pain, like yourself. She tried everything. Eventually went for acupuncture (get recommendations if you can) and a few sessions in and she was cured! Never had a reoccurrence of it. Worth a try!

I have a frozen shoulder and currently having physio, you are the 3rd person to day acupuncture helps. I will need to look into it.

Yes, but if rosiesmydog is like me, it's the actual pressure of the bra strap on her shoulder which is painful. I've had to start wearing my shoulder bag the other way round, as it was pressing on the painful bit.

Its a bastard ...I believe that is the technical term. My doctor called it Adhesive Capsulitis but it sounds the same really. More of an RSI in my case , in both shoulders.
The physiotherapy with the hoist thingy helped a bit as did diclofenac and Voltarol - which is diclofennac cream.
My fellow victims put me off Cortisone injections. But they do give some relief...until it wears off.
Mayo Clinic , HSE and NHS all advise that it often just fades away , usually after 2 years. Which is what happened to me eventually. Didn't get full movement back but not complaining!
You need a scan to check for bone spurs and such anyway. Good luck 🤞

Oops you've had a scab already . Sorry I missed that.

Scan even * ffs

Very boring but lots of rotator cuff exercises with a resistance band (light resistance, quite stretchy) do help. I worked as a PT for a few years and used to do stretches and exercise pretty much every day in between clients and my left shoulder which previously was in a terrible state was cured. These exercises take months of consistency though.

In the short term, acupuncture is great

My bra straps are fine. I wouldn't carry a bag on it.

It's actually feeling not too bad tonight!

My shoulder is rock hard and numb which is why the bra doesn't bother me!

Having had a good day yesterday I woke up this morning with terrible gnawing pain. Have taken 2 nurofen, 2 paracetamol and 30mg codeine. It's made me feel woozy but not really helping the pain.

I broke my shoulder 7 months ago and still have pain and stiffness with reduced movement. I also developed tingling in my fingers. Have they accessed your skin sensation in your arm? Physio is helping but you need to be consistent and precise with the exercises. I go to a shoulder class every week and it really helps, you get to see a couple of physios and the group acts as a support group too.

That sounds good.

I'm being very good about doing the exercises but I do often have to take a lot of painkillers before hand.

I'm beginning to resign myself to this being a long term thing.

I just feel whenever I find something that I love, just for me, something happens that means I can't do it anymore. I started weight lifting in January and really really loved it. I'm gutted not to be able tondo it. Plus swimming 😪

Have to say, my pain levels fluctuate. I’ve just had 3 days of horrible achy pain and sharp pain on even slight movement, but today…feels ok! There’s still sharp pain if I make a sudden movement - which can be random…eg I’ve just put my hand in my pocket and felt pain, five minutes later, hand in pocket, fine! But this is how it goes. I think it’s finally getting better then I get days when I can barely drive the car, get dressed, get out of the shower, go shopping, lift things etc and I’m back to square one. I think any shoulder problem is a big problem given that the shoulder is the most complex joint in the body. So hopefully, today will be an analgesia free one.

as for the bra issue…it’s mainly having to put my hand behind my back to do it up. Doing it up in the front doesn’t help as I then have to swivel it round to the back and the huge cups (I have a very small frame btw) are difficult to manipulate and tbh, it’s easier to cut all that faffing out and endure the pain doing it up the conventional way.

For me, one of the horrible things about this is feeling so vulnerable. People bumping into you accidentally, my excited dogs charging up, friends hugging, accidentally bumping into things, driving the car and suddenly getting a jolt of pain.

Like I said before it is definitely a long slow one but it does recover if you keep working at it. The range of movement you said you have is probably more than I had at the same time frame. The sport I do to keep the joint and surrounding area strong is the same sport that caused the injury and I'm pulling just as hard as I could before.

You will definitely weight lift again, it will likely form a later part of your recovery. Don't be disheartened 👍
