What was your 13-14 month old like ?

I know they can't all walk and that's perfectly fine.

But waving for example ?

Saying mama or dada ? Making some sort of noise other than crying?

Pointing ?

I've seen a couple of babies this age not doing any of these things.

Did anyone else's do this and it all just came later ? Or do I have unrealistic expectations ?

Mine is 13 months.

She can walk holding my hand and with her push walker thingy. Says mama and dada and a few other noises she enjoys making. She has a noise she makes eveytime she sees a dog 🤣

She points to things she wants, waves, blows kisses. She is basically copying a lot of things now and picking up gestures.

And oh the dancing is amazing 🤣

yallo · 26/06/2023 18:22

Yeah that's what I would consider 'the norm '.

Are you concerned about a child?

Are you concerned about a child?

I am. But it's none of my business. Which I know I'll be told here too. Hence the general question.

At that age mine didn’t walk yet, didn’t point, did babble dada and do some animal noises when prompted, would wave. Everything came together a bit later on.

Not sure what you’re getting at here, the breadth of normal development at this age is huge.

lartiy · 26/06/2023 19:16

Mine is 14m this week. Walks, says Dada, babbles most of the time. Points, waves, claps. Signs about 20 words. Crawls up stairs.

WithOneLook · 26/06/2023 19:22

14 months here. Walks, says mumuma and the names of close family in a recognisable way to strangers as well as the family iyswim but not with proper diction, points, waves....

forevercurious · 26/06/2023 19:24

Mine has just turned 13 months, is now walking confidently by herself, has mastered getting up take the stairs and can get on and off the sofa by herself. She points & waves but has no words yet but lots of noises and sounds. She’s able to make it clear what she would like, for example her water cup.

VivaVivaa · 26/06/2023 19:33

Pointed early, but didn’t wave, walk, crawl, bum shuffle or speak any words in context at 13 months. Just sat on the floor babbling and being furious at being a baby. Looked really, really behind. Walked and then progressed swiftly to running/ climbing/jumping by 16 months and was speaking in sentences by 22 ish months after language exploded at 1.5. Looked quite ‘ahead’ of his peers by 2. Development is a funny old thing.

Girasoli · 26/06/2023 19:38

DS1 couldn't walk till 15m (would crawl or cruise along furniture) but could say 10 or more words by then.

DS2 was running by 13/14m but could only say mama and maybe 1 other word.

I can't remember when DS2 learnt to clap, but DS1 was just over 1 as I'd gone back to work by then and he did it for my mum when she was looking after him.

WaltzingWaters · 26/06/2023 19:38

Mine is a week off 15 months and just started walking, although generally still reverts to crawling. Crawls up stairs. Turns around to come back downstairs independently.

He points, waves, blows kisses. Says a few words for things but not many.

Theres such variation between him and all his friends with lots of things. The norm is so varied at this age. But of course with a real concern get it checked out.

Coleman93 · 26/06/2023 19:40

Mine is 17 months now, crawled at 7 months but didn’t walk until 14 months (lots of cruising in between).

Didnt start consistently waving / pointing or gesturing until about 6 weeks ago - I was concerned at the time but not now he’s doing it.

Language wise I’d estimate at 14 months he only had muma/dada and they were inconsistent, but again has come on leaps and bounds since then and now probably has 10-15 words/noises, not always coherent but we know what he’s trying to say.

I talked to HV at 13 months and they were happy he was on track at the time even though I felt like he was behind on everything!

thecatinthetwat · 26/06/2023 19:41

If you’re concerned, make a report and they can intervene/ offer help. They won’t do anything drastic op.

Namechangedagain20 · 26/06/2023 19:46

DC1 walked at 12ms, had 3 words by 14 months (mama, dada, dog). Could clap, wave, point to most of her body parts when asked but never pointed to get someone’s attention or show you something (still doesn’t at age 5 but is autistic).

DC2 walked at 10 months, had 20 words by the time she was 1, clapped, waved and pointed by then as well.

DC3 didn’t walk until gone 13 months, had only been sitting since 9 months. Only said dada by 14 months and had only just started waving, clapping and pointing. He’s 19 months now and has come on loads in the last 2 months.

They’re all very different and at 13 months the normal range of development is huge. What specifically are you concerned about?

CoalCraft · 26/06/2023 19:47

Mine said one word - "ta". She waved but did not otherwise copy gestures. She crawled and pulled herself up but didn't walk. Her favourite thing was to hold toys and inspect them really closely, passing them from one hand to the other, chewing them, etc. Her second favourite thing was to hear songs. She was a happy, smiley little thing but needed constant entertaining.

She's now 2.5 years old and right on track with her development. You can have a conversation with her and it's lovely, just do long as you don't mimd her making stuff up on the spot!

Lostmum2407 · 26/06/2023 19:49

My two walked at 8 months old but were delayed with communication. They both caught up at the age of 6 with their speech.
