To think that yobs who beat people up should be put into a severe boot camp before being allowed back into society?

This may have been covered before, so sorry if it's repetition, but I can't get over all this stuff in the news lately about yobs beating people up or carrying knives etc. Surely they should be sent to some kind of army training camp, encouraged to go into the army, and if they don't go in the army then they should be kept until they are civilised and then released back into society?

Surely this is better than prison where they'll become hardened criminals?

And if I'm wrong, then there must be some way to combat this kind of crime?

The whole criminal justice system needs to be looked at carefully. For example, some people who are found guilty/plead guilty to an offence are somtimes fined. They are usually people who really cannot afford to pay a fine and therefore they are in effect being set up to fail. They cant pay the fine and end up back in court.

IMO prison is not really very effective. Some people go in and come out with a drug problem which then increases the risk of reoffending.

Community service and or probation seem viable options. However I think it is important to remember that many who commit crime do so either to feed a drug/drink problem, have mental illness problems or have had a rough start to life......all this of course does not help the victims. I am not saying in anyway that this is excusable but perhaps a better understanding and offering proper help would be slightly better.
