To go to a&e for suspected migrated coil

I'm having symptoms suggesting something's off with my coil. I've not had a full blown period so I think it's still in there.

Last night the bleeding was the worst it's been and I hadn't even done anything to trigger it - til now it's mainly been triggered by sex or exercise

I've had it checked twice internally at my GP surgery but it's not visible. I've been advised to get an appointment with Sandyford as they inserted it. But I've been trying for weeks and there's no availability online and I can't get through to them on the phone.

WIBU to rock up to a&e and ask for an ultrasound?

My sil had a coil which perforated her womb and had to be removed under general anaesthetic. The family planning clinic checked it when she was having pain, and they sent her to a&e.
I hope you get it sorted!

My gp referred my to the local hospital for ultrasound and then an xray to check my coil was still there as the strings couldn't be found. I had to take the mini pill until they knew it was there.

It wad there and stayed in place until it expired. It then needed to be removed under general anaesthetic as the nurse and gynae department couldn't get it out.

Do t go to A+E unless you’re haemorrhaging or in excruciating pain.
If you’re bleeding after sex or exercise, see your gp, it could be an issue with your cervix,

ReformedWaywardTeen · 26/06/2023 09:25

Rather than A+E do you have a walk in clinic?
Otherwise, I would call 111 for advice

Make a GP appointment and tell them you can't get an appointment & need referring to hospital for investigations.
Unless you're filling a pad or tampon more than every hour it's not an emergency & you don't need to go to A&E.

GPS and hospitals can provide urgent same day care if required and it doesn't need to go via A&E

Ive had several mirenas in over the past 18 years however the last time I was due a change it was stuck and it took them an hour to get it out. So they put a different brand in this time. But I've had it 2 years and only started getting problems a few months ago. I've also just as it happens had a colposcopy recently and the nurse doing that couldn't find it either.

I have seen my GP twice and they've told me to go to Sandyford which is our family planning/sexual health service.

But I can't get an appointment with them they are like gold dust !

I could phone my GP and ask them to refer me for an ultrasound I wonder how long that would take. I'm miserable with it constant achy bleeding on and off. And obviously not knowing if I'm protected against pregnancy

If it were me, I'd speak to GP again to explain the symptoms are worsening, that you can't get an appointment with the other service, and ask what you should do.

If you're in a lot of pain, then a&e trip probably needed.
