I’ve been researching into EDMR and how effective it is in curing CPTSD. A lot of what a lady called “crappy childhood fairy” really strikes a lot of what I’ve experienced - therapy does NOT work for me doesn’t matter how many different types or different therapists I have seen for over 25 years nothing has worked. Her views are controversial but I fully believe therapy is not for me either, I know it’s worked for lots of people but hasn’t for me. Has anyone got experience of EDMR and has anyone worked towards curing their CPTD give me done advice pls?

Hi. I haven’t had EMDR myself but a colleague has for PTSD following a traumatic event at work (we works in the emergency services). He told me he was sceptical but found it really helpful.

good luck. I’m sorry you’re having a rough time and didn’t get the childhood you should have xx

it worked for me for birth trauma. I am not sure how well it would work with multiple issues. But I can see how it can be more effective than talking therapies

I had it for an adult trauma that was made all the worse by that event triggering a childhood trauma. For me, it was amazing - the way I’ve described it to those who haven’t experienced PTSD is that it was like stitches for my brain. It’s highly researched and consistently found to be effective (sorry I don’t remember the sources but the NHS therapist I had it with gave me print outs saying basically that). But I’m not a specialist and obviously have no idea if it would work for you…but based on my experience I would definitely recommend giving it a try.

Hi OP, it's worth considering. Look for a therapist who specialises in attachment informed or attachment based EMDR. Do not go with an EMDR therapist who doesn't have this approach, as standard protocol might help you but you are likely to need more resourcing. Read some of Caroline Spring's stuff. There's a lot on the website, so this is just one link. Mark Brayne's website has a section for finding an AI EMDR therapist emdrfocus.com/find-an-ai-emdr-therapist/ www.carolynspring.com/blog/emdr-in-the-treatment-of-dissociative-disorders/
