we have a long garden with 3 sets of neighbours, 2 out of 3 we get on well with !We have an 11 year old & an 18 year old so only the 11 year old “plays” in the garden these days but we have 2 lovely nephews who come over for family get together once or twice a month.neighbour at the end of our garden off to the side when we had the pool out 2 years ago(a framed 10ft pool as we have cats who have punctured 3 blow up ones!)Shouted at my mum who was caring for my child & 2 nephews about the noise they were making & that he’s fed up listening to them out in the pool till past 10 at night screaming & hollering (never been in it past 7.30 ever as bedtime is at 8!!)she was shocked & upset but as not her garden she left it,he later apologised to my husband about it but not to my mum. Cut 2 today, same nephews over,I was preparing something in the kitchen but could hear him shouting,he’d climbed up over top of fence & was shouting at my nephews.he made the younger one cry.I stormed out & saw red basically,I shouted at him back & did throw a few f bombs but didn’t swear at him just used the f in my shouting but I just shouted at him how f ing dare you shout at children, he carried on shouting back so I said it again,he threatened he would call the police as I swore!!(Also fyi he was gardening yesterday & had bleedin rod Stewart on full blast for 4 hours & I didn’t say anything “do you think I’m sexy?” Um no rod I don’t!! He then said(and this is my AIBU thank you if you’ve been patient and are still reading!!) “you’ve got such a big garden you could put your paddling pool anywhere why do you have to put it there?” It’s not that close to his garden but we put it there as we have a patch of grass that despite what we do never grows so it’s the most logical place to put it for us, & having it a couple of metres further away from him isn’t going to change much in terms of general kids playing & having fun noises But does he have a point, should we move it?! Also super angry with nephews dad & husband who just sat there watching me & him shouting at each other and didn’t intervene or anything!!They said after it was clear “I had it handled” and didn’t want to step in & steal my thunder!

Agree. Especially if those children don't even live there.

Please read my post as I advise it was for one hour, just noises you would expect of children to make whilst wnjoying a paddle, and who cares if they live there or not? It’s a Sunday afternoon I don’t live in a convent and we have relatives we like to socialise with what’s wrong with that everyone does the same don’t they?! And what would have been wrong with him sticking his head over and asking me to ask the children to “keep it down” a bit instead of yelling at a 4 year old!?

And how many metres away from your house is it?

I’d guess at maybe 6 without measuring it but we have a raised garden off a too small patio to put it on so about 4 metres away from our end of grass

You are being unreasonable for being rude about Rod Stewart, rest of it's fine though.

Tazmania77 · 25/06/2023 22:52

Do you think he’s sexy then?! 😝😆 my mum loves a bit of rod, but he’s never been my cup of tea!

Thank you x but I’ll leave the singing !! No one needs to hear my singing!!!

It sounds like your neighbour does...

Equalitea · 26/06/2023 07:16

I wouldn’t move it.
I’d have considered it had he calmly and nicely asked if it was at all possible for us to move it though. No chance ever now.

Between 9am and 9pm I think you pretty much just have to let anything noise wise go, although I think 9pm is too late for me weekday garden noise it seems my neighbours don’t so I’ve had to come to terms with it!

I don’t think your husband needed to step in, you were handling it and your husband didn’t shush you to stop, he just gave silent support, that’s fine in my eyes!

DinoDaddy · 26/06/2023 07:58

Fuck your neighbour. It is just kids playing. Tell him to contact the council if he thinks it is a noise abatement issue. Spoiler alert, council won't do anything about children's noise.

Your OP is really hard to read. Try paragraphs and sentences.

I gave up sorry.

I'm still trying to process this part:

I shouted at him back & did throw a few f bombs but didn’t swear at him just used the f in my shouting but I just shouted at him how f ing dare you

Did she actually say 'effing'? If not, then has 'fuck' gone the same way as 'bloody' and 'damn', that is, not 'swearing' any more? I'm getting a strong whiff of six of one and half-a-dozen of the other.

Foodieasfuck · 26/06/2023 08:20

Your neighbour sounds entitled and bonkers. I wouldn’t have had him shouting at kids in my garden either - well done for setting him straight. Kids play in gardens - he should move to a flat without one if he is so bothered by garden noise.
Can you plant some big trees to shield his view so that he would be unable to see over even if he climbed to the top of the fence… bamboos are fast growing and very tall..

SquirrelFeed · 26/06/2023 08:21

I think the op swore whist arguing but didn’t call him (for instance) a fucking idiot.

Re moving the pool I doubt it’ll make much difference to noise and could make him worse in a give and inch and he’ll take a mile way. If it’s normal kids playing noise at a reasonable time I’d carry on as you were.

MrsH1992 · 05/10/2023 00:12

What a nutter! I'd invite all your friends over and have an actual pool party until midnight and really wind him up. But seriously not ok shouting at kids. I'd try to film him if he does it again and call 111
