To wondre WHY we live in a world where it everyone else's fault?

Yesterday in the paper there was a bloke (compulsive gambler) suing a bookmaker for taking his bets and him going bankrupt,
Today there is a woman trying to sue a chap because she was sticking junk mail through his door and cut her hand on the letter box, the other week it was some very obese American trying to sue McDonalds for making him fat , and smokers and drinkers have been known to sue tobacco and alcohol company's.

It always seems to be someone else's fault, no one wants to accept responsibility for them self nowdays, or else see a way to make a quick buck.

Then their is the poor bloke who is looking at a murder charge because he struggled with a knife wielding career criminal who was trying to rob him and her bloke ended up stabbed with his own knife, the world has gone mad.

If I put my life savings on a horse and it lost that is MY fault for being stupid, not the bookies for taking the bet.

If I went shoving unsolicited crap through peoples door and cut myself doing so, that is an accident

If I spent my life shoveling big macs down for every meal I would expect to get fat

If I spent all day smokng then got lung cancer again all my own doing

If I spent all day knocking back alcohol and died as a result, (as my father did) all my own fault

And hell yes I would not care if I killed someone who was attacking me with a fecking knife, they should not have been trying to rob/kill me.

It is a sad world we are living in, and the worst part of it is it is becoming all too normal to blame every one else for our own short comings

I agree with some of what you say, but not all.

I suspect there is more to many of the stories/examples than is implied by your description - some of it might mitigate, some won't.

I agree, I can't help but think a lot of it is based on greed and people out for what they can get.

I had a nasty car accident while pregnant with DD, insurance company and solicitor are dealimg with it, I have just claimed for lost earnings from work but so many people keep telling me to push for more and say I have this and that wrong with me!

Err why, to invrease everybodsy premiums with a fraudelant claim!

alfiesbabe · 22/02/2008 21:26

Totally agree

BigBadMouse · 22/02/2008 21:27

totally agree.

I know someone who sued the council because she tripped on a slightly uneven pavement and sprained her ankle - surely that is just life and you have to look where you are going? No wonder they charge so much council tax if they are expected to check pavements every other day for unevenness

BigBadMouse · 22/02/2008 21:27

I agree it is mostly greed that drives some of these people, the sad thing is they get away with it.

There seems to be no such thing as an accident anymore.
My cousin was in her car with her daughter (9 years old) who was messing about and would not have a seat belt on, cousin stopped at a give way and was hit behind by someone who was going a bit too fast to stop, few dents in the car and so on, cousin saw a quick buck and went with the whiplash card (I know there was sod all wrong with her as she was out playing bloody tennis and stuff) but as she said she could get a holiday out of it

I know someone who tripped over a gap in the pavement and chipped her 2 front teeth. She is claiming compensation from the council but failed to mention she was pissed out of her head at the time

chankins · 22/02/2008 21:30

Agree with you - I would never dream of suing f something went wrong in my life that was basically my own fault ! This is the reason kids today can't truluy enjoy childhood - we are all too scared of what might happen and will we get suued ?
How do these people sleep at night ?
Did the person suing mcdonalds think big macs were healthy ? Jesus fucking christ. no bloody common sense left in this world thats what the problem is.

peanutbear · 22/02/2008 21:30

"If I spent all day smoking then got lung cancer again all my own doing"

Thats all right for people in middle age and under to say but it was activly encourages in our older generations for one thing as a cure for ASTHMA

surely they have rights

BigBadMouse · 22/02/2008 21:30

never double posted before

expatinscotland · 22/02/2008 21:30

I agree.

Someone will be along in a bit, hwoever, to tell you you are cruel and heartless.

BigBadMouse · 22/02/2008 21:32

peanutbear - thats true but then did the manufacturers know anything of the potential harm of their product at the time? Admittedly not sure how they worked out it was good for you either...just wondering not disagreeing with you at all

fishie · 22/02/2008 21:32

yes kimi everything is your fault. i'm suing you.

Kimi · 22/02/2008 21:33

I see your point PB but now days unless you are really thick you know smoking kills but people still do it.

I am diabetic, if I went on a cake bender and ended up in hospital can I sue Mr Kiplin for making exceedingly good cakes to tempt me with

OP posts:
Kimi · 22/02/2008 21:34

/kimi sues fishie for hurting her feelings

OP posts:
alfiesbabe · 22/02/2008 21:35

True peanutbear. But the dangers of smoking have been well known and highly publicised for ages now. So I think it's fair to say anyone taking it up these days knows what they're choosing.

expatinscotland · 22/02/2008 21:35

yes, kimi, because you had an addiction to cakes and it was their fault for marketing them and supermarket's fault for offering them for cheap.

and you are mean and compassionless not to recognise this!

chankins · 22/02/2008 21:36

exactly , nowadays we know the risks of everything don't we ? It is then up to us as adults to assess the risks and decide for ourselves if we wish to drink, smoke, gamble or eat crap ect. As for falling over, ffs what happened to just getting up and laughing about it ? Do you sue someone everythime your child falls over as mine do twenty million tim4es a day !

peanutbear · 22/02/2008 21:36

I agree with all your other posts
I am diabetic to and I wish I could sue the inventors of Eton Mess as I love the stuff but cant eat it

The blame culture has done us all more harm than good in the long run but it has helped some people claim who really are deserving

what really gets to me is you can claim more for a car accident resulting in whiplash than some soldiers get in compensation for being injured in war

Kimi · 22/02/2008 21:37

Good god Expat I will serve papers on them tomorrow, also I had to have a filling yesterday and I have a few extra pounds on my bum, I will sue the cake firms, the supermarkets and starbucks

OP posts:
fishie · 22/02/2008 21:37

the pavements thing though, little blocks laid badly do rise up and trip us.

fairyfly · 22/02/2008 21:38

I couldn't agree more

falls down grid and sues the council

Kimi · 22/02/2008 21:38

/kimi eats all chocks and sues fishie for attempted murder
