to suggest to dh that he doesn't partake in the bacon sandwiches that go round the office on a Friday morning

He's a bit (well rather) overweight.

He knows it, I know it. And he gets painful knees. And he knows that part of the problem is lugging his belly around.

He says he want's to lose a few pound before we go away (7 weeks).

I'm trying to cut down on his intake a bit at home, keep our meals healthy but without going for the miserable all out diet thing.

And today he had the office bacon sarnie, and then his packed lunch.
And because I rolled my eyes a bit and said it really wasn't a good idea to have done that, he's been all sulky over dinner with ds (although he didn't have a glass of wine, so thats a few calories saved).

But honestly ......?

let me tell you abotu super mr cod

was VERY overwight - si a big bloke so it dint lok too bad but after 5 years of it and knee issues he has lost 30 pounds

You're allowed a treat on any diet.

You do realise, don't you, that the more you nag and roll your eyes, the more likely it is that he will think "sod you!" and have two bacon sarnies next time?

You can't do it for him - and you can't nag him into it, either.

yabu.

serious dieting isn't about losing a few pounds to go on holiday, it's about changing your lifestyle in order to maintain that weight loss. And it certainly doesn't mean going without any treats, ever. It's one bacon sandwich, once a week. How would you feel if your dh commented on your statement that "I can't do without my occasional wine with dinner,"? because imo that statement could be just as worthy of concern as his weight.

BTW Cod, great news about Mr Cod, But tell me more, how did he lose the 30 pounds, and are his knees better for it?

You are going to tell me you didn't nag him, aren't you?

Bacon sandwiches are amazing. I was on Weightwatchers for a while and used to have one every now and then and it didn't stop me losing weight.

It was the half a dozen chocolate biscuits each evening that put it back on though!

Don't nag him, my husband does that to me and it's really hard. Lost most weight when I stayed at MILs. She kept trying to make me eat all the time...now THAT stops you eating.

It's very hard for both the one who needs to lose weight and the one supporting them. You forget you're overweight and just eat and then you're genuinely shocked when you catch a glimpse of yourself.

My husband encourages me and then goes mad if he catches me having a second boiled potato and all the encouragement goes out of the window.

At the end of the day a person has to do it for themselves...I've got a beach holiday booked for August so I'm hoping that's going to give me motivation to lose weight so I can look ok on the beach. Is there anything like that that may motivate your husband?
