To not pay to choose seats but expect to sit together?

I'll be flying with easyjet on a short flight (just over an hour) soon. It will be me, my toddler (2 years 4 months) and my baby (four months). Baby will be on my lap. According to the website they will sit children near an accompanying adult - surely in the case of a two year old this means next to?! I really don't want to spend another £20 on choosing seats if it's unnecessary.

Just pay for the seats FFS. Airplanes are chaotic and the more seats that are booked in advance, the easier it is for staff to keep things organised.

Then the airline should just fucking include seat selection at point of booking within price, like they used to. Or simply allocate the seats automatically that groups are seated together.

All this crap about splitting bits of the price off to try and kid you into thinking its cheap is such a swindle. We should make it hard work for the airline to implement, to deter them from doing it.

id pay it unless you’re 100% certain you’ll get to the airport in plenty of time to check in early. I was too tight to pay it once when DS was 2, thinking they’d never separate us so no point, and we ended up being some of the last people to check in, plane was full, I was across the aisle from toddler and DH in a completely different part of the plane. It was hideous, he screamed all through takeoff and landing and I vowed never to risk it again.

The OP can check in with easyJet online a whole month before she goes, and know what her seat numbers are with a month to change them if necessary.

User27680416 · 24/06/2023 18:47

Just pay the money. The peace of mind will be worth it.

Georgyporky · 24/06/2023 18:47

"What about if you suddenly had the responsibility of a random 2 year old that wasn't yours next to you without their parent?"

Not my responsibility, that's why the call-buttons are there to summon staff.

TonTonMacoute · 24/06/2023 18:47

A lot of people here don't seem to grasp the concept of 'no frills' and understand how low cost airlines work.

mollibu · 24/06/2023 18:48

I flew to Tenerife with easyJet a few months ago, paid for my preferred seat (at the back, isle seat specifically😂) and was asked to move as a woman with toddlers (twins!) was sat next to one toddler on our row and the other toddler was placed in the seat directly in front next to the window.

I really wasn't prepared to swap my isle seat for a window seat. It was so annoying and caused a half hour delay to the flight trying to sort it out.

In theory yes they should put you together but sometimes they won't! For £20 I would just pay it to save the hassle in case.

Soapyspuds · 24/06/2023 18:48

We had to give up paid reserved seats for families on at least 2 flights because they knew they would be seated together anyway

These airlines need to be shamed in the media.

Either insist on customers sitting in their allocated seats, or make it the official policy that children are seated next to their parents without charge,

It is the fact they allow some people to get the service for free, whilst others pay for it that pisses me off the most.

NuffSaidSam · 24/06/2023 18:48

BungleandGeorge · 24/06/2023 18:43

But if you’re in a couple and one moves the other one will still likely be sat next to the 2 year old. Just on their own!

You'd be sat next to the parent of that child. Not an unaccompanied 2 year old. I know what I'd prefer.

FettleOfKish · 24/06/2023 18:48

Throwncrumbs · 24/06/2023 18:27

When you pick your flights you have to choose your seat before paying, at least that’s what happens when in the app. Cheapest are £5.99 I think. I would risk it because there might not be 2 seats together and people do not like moving from the seats that they’ve paid to sit in

You can skip seat selection in the easyJet app, it's optional. Never in a million years would I pay to select seats as it's just me and DH and we couldn't care if we're not sat next to each other (although we are always allocated together anyway).

I'd pay not to sit next to my child lol. Surely they can't sit them next to strangers? Who would supervise them?

Also, surely not fair on other passengers to sit next to an unsupervised toddler with parent 2 rows away living life and having a nice drink.

WhenIWasAFieldMyself · 24/06/2023 17:45

Do whatever you want.
But if I'm next to you and your kid is behind you, I'm not moving. Because I paid my tenner.

You will if cabin crew tell you to

I had to - and I had paid.

OP pay for the seat please

zoomiesdrivememad · 24/06/2023 18:52

SIL just came back from her holiday and her 8 year old was seated in front of her.

Luckily a kind lady offered to swap.

Just book the seats.

fetchacloth · 24/06/2023 18:52

Sorry but YABU on this one.
As others have said if I've paid for specific seat I expect to sit there and not be made to feel guilty for not budging.
With children so young it's a bit of a no brainer really.

I8toys · 24/06/2023 18:52

Others should not be shamed or pressurised into giving up their paid seats for you. I paid for my kids and family to sit together you pay for yours. I don't care about the airlines policy and shaming them. Its the right thing to do for all passengers and your kids.

Riapia · 24/06/2023 18:53

I find it difficult to believe that anyone faced with sitting next to someone else’s 2 y.o. Wouldn’t grab the opportunity to swap seats.

Gothambutnotahamster · 24/06/2023 18:53

EasyJet has always seated us together and my kids are older than yours. I wouldn't pay Op but then wouldn't expect anyone to switch with me as I haven't paid.

maddiemookins16mum · 24/06/2023 18:53

Risk it if you want, your choice. But don’t blame anyone but yourself when it goes tits up.

HerMammy · 24/06/2023 18:54

Not this again, just pay £20, every flight lately has a steward going up and down trying to get ppl to move because some tight parent hasnt pre booked a seat.

yogasaurus · 24/06/2023 18:54

Amandasummers · 24/06/2023 18:44

What about if you suddenly had the responsibility of a random 2 year old that wasn't yours next to you without their parent?

Why would you assume the responsibility for a random child sat next to you? They’re nothing to do with you.

yogasaurus · 24/06/2023 18:55

HerMammy · 24/06/2023 18:54

Not this again, just pay £20, every flight lately has a steward going up and down trying to get ppl to move because some tight parent hasnt pre booked a seat.

Yep, and everyone else on the flight glaring at the cheap, entitled parent in disgust.

USaYwHatNow · 24/06/2023 18:55

Having just flown with a 10mo, and having paid £60 for my husband and I to sit together and people STILL trying to sit itln our seats and then kicked off because we were daring to fly with a baby, just pay the £20. Surely a small price to pay for peace of mind? And yes, you'd like to think that algorithms would mean a 2yo would be sat literally right next to the accompanying parent, but stranger and more inconvenient things have happened. So to prevent any dramas, anyone kicking off or causing any delays just pay the twenty quid.

ilovesooty · 24/06/2023 18:55

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 24/06/2023 18:18

No.

Why should people pay for something they don't need or want, such as food, luggage space, a specific seat?

I love a la carte pricing. I buy what I want from the airlines and others are free to do the same. I don't purchase what I don't need.

Those who need a seat next to a family member, should buy it.

Agreed. As it happens I usually pay to select a seat for flights longer than a couple of hours, but I don't see why I should put up with higher base rates so that families can have seat selection included

And if I've paid for my chosen seat, I'm not moving out of it to accommodate people who didn't pay to ensure they're sitting next to their children.

jc12689 · 24/06/2023 18:55

Just get there early

99victoria · 24/06/2023 18:56

We fly with Easyjet all the time - I've never paid for seats and we're always seated together

TonTonMacoute · 24/06/2023 18:47

A lot of people here don't seem to grasp the concept of 'no frills' and understand how low cost airlines work.

Exactly what I was thinking 🤔.
If I had a young family I would just pay up and accept it for what it was .
No way would I want to be seen as a problem for others.
