Are people more quietly spoken after Covid or am I being unreasonable?

People who speak too quietly annoy me. I’ve noticed more people speaking like little mice after the pandemic, maybe because they forgot how to make themselves heard? Or maybe I’m actually being unreasonable and speaking really quietly is totally fine. Or maybe I’m going deaf!

Speaking quietly is fine. I think some people don't always listen properly unless someone is loud.

sevendwellings · 23/06/2023 22:31

I hate loud voices and noises so speaking quietly is bliss.

Allmyghosts · 23/06/2023 22:32

My hearing is a bit shit tbh, but the only person I have to repeatedly say what? To is my ex who does it on purpose for his own bizarre reasons (he doesn't do it to anyone else). I do find now though the discrepancy between dialogue and loud things in film and TV a fucking nightmare, if I put it loud enough to hear dialogue, the action scenes are thunderous, so fucking annoying.

Oh my god I've been thinking this lately! It's SO sitting when people mumble and speak like mice. It's so coming now!

Butchyrestingface · 23/06/2023 22:34

I did the Specsavers test first. Said I had good hearing.

Did the RNID test next and it said I have signs of hearing loss and should book a full hearing test.

Am inclined to believe the second one because I listen to music too loudly and struggle with low (usually male) mumbly voices.

notacooldad · 23/06/2023 22:36

No I haven’t had my hearing checked because I’m in my mid thirties
You’re joking right? My best friend had hearing loss from the age of 22.
He is not totally deaf, just struggles to pick things up. He wears a discreet hearing aid that is virtually not noticeable ( he has his head shave) My mum has longer hair and nobody can see hers.

JustAnotherRandom · 23/06/2023 22:39

I put it down to my hearing, which is impaired after covid.

ColdHandsHotHead · 23/06/2023 22:41

People’s hearing starts to become less acute from their mid 30s onwards. That’s without any help from COVID. I have a genetic hearing loss that was diagnosed in my teens. You’re never too young.

sevendwellings · 23/06/2023 22:42

You know in some countries they clean the insides of their ears..

ILoveCookie · 23/06/2023 22:43

Maybe you need your ears syringing? A lot of people complain they can’t hear then when I look they are blocked with wax.

Fairislefandango · 23/06/2023 22:44

Tbh it seems really odd that you would assume that your recent hearing difficulties are not down to your hearing, but to the rest of the population speaking more quietly!
