To wonder if the free childcare for 1 and 2 year olds will materialise

The first stage roll out of 15 hours free childcare is due to be rolled out from April next year. I asked my nursery manager today on pick-up if they had any information or guidance from the government on how it will work. Her reply was that they had no information about it but the waiting list had grown as people are trying to get their little ones enrolled in time for April.

Aibu to think it might not actually materialise?

What about everyone in the middle?

Depends if they can long out this parliament. My theory is that they're anticipating a general election (that they'll lose) before anything is meant to be rolled out.

It's not even 30 hours as it is. The vast majority don't work termtime only so ours is stretched across the year at 22 hours a week. This doesn't cover my hours and commute, and I only do 3 7-hour days. Don't get me wrong, it's helpful, but full-time would still be £500 a month. They say "30" hours so people before children will think it's nearly a full working week!

I don't think it will but if it does I don't think it'll work. Nurseries are already on their knees with low funding and lack of staff and places. There is no way such a potential uptake of places will work. It's just not feasible.

Given this government is one very much for talk but no action, I am almost expecting it to be postponed, or be in name only.
