To think this dentist absolutely arsed up my wisdom tooth extraction?

Horrific lower wisdom tooth extraction the other day. My local dentist thought they could do it. (I have had two wisdom teeth out already and that was fine).

it went horribly wrong and the tooth splintered. The anaesthetic touched a nerve to begin with and gave me a ghastly electric shock feeling. Now my lip doesn’t feel right. So I had no confidence from the outset. Then there was 1.5 hours of what I felt was hell. They gave up and a bit of the root is left in. They said it’s too hard to get that bit out and have left it. The sides of my mouth are all cut and sore and I have what feels like tears inside my mouth.

is that normal? Is any of this normal?

to get a private second opinion is going to cost me £190.

wish to god I had gone privately to the specialist dental surgeon in the city to begin with.

I've just had a bollocksed up root canal where my tooth broke and now I'm going private to get some help with it. The dentist situation is absolutely dire.

Mine happened months ago now, at Easter, and I've come to terms with the fact I just have to either have a broken tooth or pay privately.

Like you I'm pissed off that I just wandered in, following the process instead of looking into the options myself and going to someone who was more experienced at root canals.

Same happened to a relative of mine. Left with an infection and in agony over the weekend because "no one in until monday".
Pay whatever it is to get your tooth sorted properly. Toothache is hellache

That sounds horrendous but I don't think the tooth shattering is that unusual - I had an extraction last week of a molar tooth and that shattered into lots of pieces. My (excellent) dentist was incredibly careful to remove it all though and spent a lot of time doing x rays etc to make sure it was all out. It does sound like the whole procedure could have been done so much better though. My dentist was absolutely paranoid about leaving any bits behind because of infection.

calypso that’s my issue - infection risk - she said would probably be ok?! To be fair she tried to get the last bit out but couldn’t and everyone was exhausted
