Controversial I know. I also completely understand that their will be children who are overweight for reasons beyond their control. However it really does upset me to see so many children and teens who are obviously quite considerably overweight

when i look back at pics of me and my siblings we looked RANK!

I mean horrid - dtick thin long bony legs and had the pice been undressed i am certain all ribs would have shown

we have all grown up into normal adults

weight is all just heavier now - heavier born etc

the teen thing is shocking i thing and teens are old enough to take charge of their own diet to a degree\

i MAKE my kids walk everywhere - friends dont
they drive them to the bus and pick them up fro it

when they come in my kids eat at around 5 to stop them grazing - its all habit

I'm a good working class girl and grew up on a diet of mostly home-cooked food but also lots of crisps, chocolate biscuits, jam sandwiches, etc..... some good, some bad stuff - pretty calorie packed though generally. In my early teens I could happily demolish half a packet of biscuits when I got home from school, and it wasn't that uncommon for me to have 2 packets of crips a day, and yet I was always like a stick.

Can't put it down to genetics (although I am tall) based on the rest of my family, but I was constantly on the go: all sorts of sports and running about at school, then out on bikes or running around 'playing out' at home until forced to come in for tea/bath/bed by parents - and, personally, I think that's what it is - the 'exercise' bit is missing for a lot of kids these days, and not the structured stuff - the knocking about in the street, keeping your fingers crossed that your mum hasn't realised what time it is and is going to come and call you in.

ahhh, happy days............
