To be worried they will refuse to fix my phone?

Hi everyone
My phone has been playing up and turning itself off. I took it to a local repair shop and they had a look at it. They manage to switch it on again but now the touch screen won't work. They also took a microchip out and said that chip was causing problems. I hoped it would be a quick and cheap fix but it won't be. I have decided to send it back to the manufacturer who said they would fix it free of charge but it may take a while.

Now I am worried the manufacturer will refuse to fix it because I have already had it looked at by someone and a chip has been removed.

AIBU to think the manufacture will refuse to fix my phone now?

I never said apple would fix it.

From the OP...

I think you maybe meant the retailer rather then the manufacturer having read the rest of the post.

Tbh it's probably only for for the bin at this stage.

Writing this on my iPhone 8 👀 it is an old phone but no reason why it shouldn’t work properly, in my experience Apple will fix but they will charge if you’ve played about with it, but I once dropped my old phone and the screen wouldn’t come on and Apple tried to fix it but just replaced it, despite the fact it’s not supposed to be covered in the case of dropping it so I wouldn’t get too down yet, just see what they say.

nothing wrong with buying refurbished and nothing wrong with having an older phone, not all of us want to spend loads on the newest items!

Sorry OP but the error here was you taking your phone to the local repair shop.
How can the place you bought the phone from be expected to repair/replace for free now?

If you’ve paid for a service from the local shop , what are they doing to fix your phone ?

Yes I know I made a huge mistake. I feel incredibly stupid now. They said they would see what the problem was . I had no idea they would remove something. I should have waited until I was at home next week but I had to see my messages.

If the touch screen was working before the local shop looked at it, I suspect they’ve put the phone back together incorrectly, maybe didn’t attach a cable inside.
You say they took a chip out… and replaced it with another?

Yes they replaced the faulty chip with another chip. So now it will turn on. I asked them what happened to the touch screen and they said there is another problem with the phone which means that the touch screen is not working. I don't know if that is correct or they have damaged the phone. They quoted me a lot of money to get the phone fixed.

I worked in the phone repair industry for years as we were an authorised repair centre.
A phone that old will of certainly been opened before especially as it's been refurbished as they most likely put a new battery in etc.
The chip that was removed will have to be put back in professionally as this is the only thing that would flag up (we could always tell if a phone was fixed by someone not trained as most shops that offer repairs are not trained)
But I would not tell them you had it "fixed"
If it was new then you probably couldn't get away with it but in this case take your chances.
