Chickenpox wwyd?

Hi my little one has came into contact with chicken pox last Monday and Tuesday with another child at the CMs. If he gets them they should be out by next week. However my eldest wasn't in contact with this child and I'm unsure if he has had them as when I thought he had them at 3 he only had five or six spots. We go on holiday in four weeks so if he hasn't ever had them and if his little brother does get them his incubation period will be right around when we go on holiday.

i think I should book him in this week to get the vaccine husband says no. Thoughts????

Time scale
today -7 days: exposed
today + 7 days: child 1 gets it
today + 21 days: child 2 gets it
today + 28 days (4 weeks) : holiday starts

Don't see the problem, they aren't contagious after a week (is that not the modern rule?)

I'd definitely get the vaccination.

It's not a guarantee. I had the 2 but still caught it however I'm sure it was much milder as a result and it helped avoid the scars.

If child 1 gets it 7 days from now the child 2 could get it from 21days to 28daya from now if it goes over the 14 day incubation period (I've read can be up to 21days)

Guess we were just unusual with exactly 2 weeks from one kid to next each time.

GameofStrife · 19/06/2023 18:26

We've always had an exact 14 days between exposure and aiming out in spots in both my extended family and friends.

15 week old baby DD (currently advising her brothers how they should drink at Uni) had 5 or 7 spots. Total.

Never got CP again. Exposed to many cases at different points in life.

that Would work out well tbf the child they have had contact with she got it 14 days after contact with an 'infected' cousin

i think deep down I know they have had it that time as has dodged two class years of having it it's just the thought of that slight chance and losing out on all that money on holiday or going and then being absolutely miserable

I tried to do this
exposure on the Sunday - on holiday the Thursday called so many places and answers were mixed yes book in but no appointments 🙈 or no don’t book in until 2 weeks post exposure to know if was going to get them or not
in the end couldn’t get an appointment locally anyway and 4 weeks later still no CP.
checking local boots and will book in when avails but panicked whole holiday if he was going to get them and not be allowed to fly home!

GayPareeee · 19/06/2023 18:34

I have 3 DC's as they all succumbed exactly 21 days after the previous one came down with it. I think a more pressing question is where will you be on holiday and what happens if it comes out whilst you're there? And are you and DH safe?

MumlifeSumlife · 19/06/2023 18:39

Yea we have both had them and I have had shingles before too. I wanted to book for a postage immunity test last week then too many people said I was being OTT lol

Well.. one of you & the recovered child could still go on hols. Not a 100% loss.

Alsonification · 19/06/2023 20:07

It can be up to 3 weeks incubation. With my own kids it was exactly 2 weeks.
I currently have one of my mindees off with chicken pox. He broke out 2.5 weeks after a child in his preschool class had them.
I think I'd deffo get the vaccine in your case.

MumlifeSumlife · 19/06/2023 22:10

Just gonna go for it at least I will know I've tried to prevent it because I have no hope of keeping the two of them apart the younger one follows the older one everywhere.
