Too tired to work

I just really need some advice and help if anyone has any.

In the summer I struggle a lot with insomnia. The past week has been particularly rough and is catching up with me. Last night I had 4 hours sleep and I have come into work and I feel physically unwell with how tired I am. I can't focus on the screen it's making my eyes hurt, making me feel dizzy etc. 5:30 seems so far away that i don't know how I'm going to make it through.

I know a lot of people on here may have suffered with extreme tiredness during their first trimester and maybe have some tips on how to make it through? Last week I took a sick day as I physically just couldn't face the day due to how tired I was, I had a massive headache and just needed the day to try and rest. So I don't really want to do that again as I feel like taking sick days due to tiredness sounds a bit stupid and like I'm taking the piss. Even though it's making me feel physically ill. I have very low B12 levels as well, which I have just found out from recent blood tests and I have tablets for it (so far not helping) so I have low energy anyway and now after a week of barely any sleep I feel quite depressed with it.

Please can someone help me with some advice on how I can see it through til the end of the day? It seems an impossible task, I can barely concentrate.
I don't drink coffee but I do have some Pro plus tablets in my bag. They just don't seem to help!

My first thought before even reading your OP is B12- I need 3 monthly injections or I am bed bound, dizzy and really weak. Can you see if you are allowed to have the injection? Not sure if it’s allowed during pregnancy You will feel better in two days with the injection

@Imogensmumma I have thought about the injection! Is the injection more affective?

I have a b12 spray that worked really quickly.
Had blood tests in pregnancy. It's got yellow branding/packaging and on Amazon. I think it's meant to absorb better than tablets, but I may be wrong.

I'm not sure if you're pregnant or not from your message. (I see a reference to first trimester, but not sure if you're just comparing it here...)
Anyway - I am someone who has dealt with about 30 years of insomnia. It's shit, but there are some things I find help.

  • blackout curtains
  • don't drink too much before bed, so you aren't self-woken for the bathroom
  • honestly, 4 hours is fine; I mean it's not long-term sustainable, but for a few weeks, yeah, it's perfectly manageable - unless you operate heavy machinery for a living, I'd assume!
  • sounds like you need your B12 & iron checked. Supplements can help - or as a PP has said, injections for B12.
  • make sure you get up and walk around every 30 mins or so. Get some fresh air. These help with tiredness, instead of just sitting at a desk all day.
  • just going with it.

The more you stress about not being able to sleep, the more of a 'thing' it becomes. Try to make sure that you go to bed at a routine time - but, if after 30/45 mins you're still awake, get up and do something - I often do my ironing at 3am!
Sympathies, OP, but you will get through this.

So much more effective I can physically feel when they kick in after 2 days and I always wonder why at the 3 month mark I struggle to get out of bed then a reminder will come on my phone and I will realise.

Also if you are pregnant make sure you keep on top of B12 after birth as the sleepless nights exaggerate the tiredness and I was diagnosed as PND then had a B12 injection and felt alive again

Yes it bypasses the need to be absorbed through the gut. DD had some. It seemed to work quickly when the tablets hadn't.
