Psoriasis

Anyone else completely miserable because of psoriasis? It’s on my scalp so every time I move my head lots of flakes fall down which is embarrassing. It’s on my ear which is sore and looks horrendous (picture in next post) and is on other areas too.
Ive had every cream going from the dermatologist but they work for a bit then it flares and looks awful again!
Its so embarrassing.
what has worked for you if yours is like this?

Have you tried salt baths? Either dead sea salt or epsom salt, both can help with psoriasis, but DH prefers dead sea salt for his.

Mumof1andacat · 18/06/2023 19:31

My dh has it. Generally, he has tried most creams going. He finds cutting back on sugar and dairy helps in your diet. UV light (sun light) and chlorine so swimming helps.

I'm clear every where but my scalp due to enstillar. It's the first time since I had uv treatment and it's wonderful.
I'm not expecting it to last though nothing ever does
Collegen supplements helped keep the plaques light
Mine also hasn't been as bad since menopause. My mum's cleared then too.
Hope you find something x

Plonkydonkey · 18/06/2023 19:36

Another fan of enstilar here. I have a mix of eczema and psoriasis together and this is the best thing I have found. It's a spray on and it's so good.

Littlesprouts · 18/06/2023 19:40

Ah OP I sympathise. I have been covered in it head to foot since having covid earlier this year. I had got it somewhat under control with a good steroid cream but the GP won't repeat the prescription and told me this week to just moisturise it and monitor what happens! So I am a bit down about it all coming back with a vengeance. It looks like the pox!

PoppyStellar · 18/06/2023 19:45

Another vote for enstilar it’s really good. Only on prescription though I think. In terms of a really good daily moisturiser for areas where you get psoriasis my current best is lush ‘sympathy for the skin’. I’ve had really bad psoriasis for over 20 years. It sucks.

OriginalUsername2 · 18/06/2023 20:01

Lifestyle changes - let me know if you’re into that, but for topical treatment I use Dovobet Ointment on prescription from the GP.

DH had it terribly since he was a child. All over his scalp, ears, temples, torso and legs. Every cream going. Recently got referred to specialist and they set up a course of light therapy. For the first time ever it has completely cleared up! It’s been a few weeks now and it’s not returning. Hopefully it will continue to stay away. If not, he can have another course should he need to.

JanuarySnow · 18/06/2023 20:25

I know it's not recommended but the only thing that clears mine is sunbeds. Gets rid of the white flakey patches totally

Harrythehappypig · 18/06/2023 20:30

Do you keep hair over your ears? I know it’s hard but try not to while the sun is shining

sushiandsauvignon · 18/06/2023 20:34

Has your dermatologist suggested oral treatment or UV treatment? If nothing else is working these are options, obviously depending on your personal medical history.

For me lotriderm is the only cream that helps calm the areas on my body and bettamousse on my scalp. It doesn't stop it, but it does seem to contain the flakes so I can get through the day.

Conkersinautumn · 18/06/2023 20:36

I use trimovate, dobovet and have completely cut out soaps on my affected areas of my body. Sunlight (middle of the day for the right wavelength) makes a difference for me. I have to take my skin to almost burning though, it's a fine and risky line. Ultimately I find a holiday to somewhere with high uv levels every other year, keeps it at a lower level only needing good oils to and the prescription to get from feb to april. But if I get a bad throat infection or if something else affects my skin (insect bites) then it will get worse, this year I had it absolutely all over as I got a patch of cellulitis from a bite and although its improving im alarmed its still on my legs and back..

Conkersinautumn · 18/06/2023 20:39

Oh and salicylic acid in flake removers for my hair means I can 'shed' and get through a day before more dries out really takes a lot of cleaning out all the flakes with a nit comb after the oiling I doubt it's the best approach but it does make.my scalp feel fresh for a day, very worth it when it's very bad.

DeeplyMovingExperience · 18/06/2023 20:53

It's an absolute bastard isn't it? I have it on my hands, feet and sometimes scalp. I use T-gel shampoo to wash my hair and also any affected areas, and heavy emollients having given up on steroids because they're so bad to use for long periods. UV treatment didn't work and I couldn't handle the twice-weekly hospital visits for it.

I really feel for you, and for everyone who deals with this horrible condition.
