What kind of communal hallway, the type where you live with a couple of close housemates. Or the communal hallway of a flat complex and any stranger could come across you, if the latter no.. aside from getting on the wrong side of the complex management, it's dangerous.

A fan with a tub of ice cubes in front of it might be the safer option!

Strugglingwiththisone · 18/06/2023 19:17

Yeah stay out of the hall way. Also, your neighbours will be sweltering too. What if everyone did it?

Toddlerteaplease · 18/06/2023 19:20

That would be very weird.

Can you open the external windows in your flat, prop open the internal doors and the door to the hallway and cool the flat that way? Sit in the doorway for half an hour with a cup of tea and the flat should cool down a lot.

I agree with a pp that sleeping in the communal hallway itself sounds dangerous.

I wouldn't it is a personal security and fire safety risk.

Where are you? The weather has broken in London and has been raining gently for the last 3 hours, so it is not as sweaty.

We are in a London flat but have managed to keep the internal temperature below 22 degrees all week through a strict regime of curtains and windows closed during the day and all windows open early morning and late evening to circulate air.

We do have a lot of shady trees in the garden and very thick concrete walls that keep things cool.

Bathroom floor. If you’ve got room, put a towel in your freezer ready to sleep on tomorrow night and a plastic bottle of water to roll over the back of your neck and your wrists.

And keep reminding yourself that autumn is only a couple of months away.
