To not understand why the answer to inflation is to raise interest rates?

Is it to make everyone so poor due to mortgage rises that they cannot afford to buy as many things?

Just another point, people are focusing on Mortgages and household finances when considering interest rates but it also will effect companies.
We should expect to see any weak companies go under when they try to roll over their debts as they will also have gone from very low rates to Bank rate plus spread.
Construction companies are going under in large numbers just it's not reported for example.
