What to spend on 4 year old party gift

Hey Everyone!

What is the right about to spend on a birthday pressie for a 4 year old? My son has been invited to a party at the weekend and I have no idea what to get!

Usually by this point I would just start chucking money at the problem (sorry dp 🤣) but I think it would probably look odd spending £15/£20 on a child I have never met. I also don't want to open up the obligation for the party girls mum to think she needs to spend the same when my sons rolls around!

Any gift ideas for 4 year old girl would be greatly appreciated also! My son has only just turned 3 so not sure if they still into bluey etc by that age!

wow that’s a large amount!

No way I'd be spending that on a 4 year old
Kids get invited to loads of parties.

Argos normally do 2 for £20 lego sets which are always good value. Small selection but good reduction on normal price.

Definitely don't spend more than a tenner! That seems a lot to me. Honestly, one of the best things about my children's school is the person who asked, when they were all in nursery, if we could all just stick a quid in a card and be done with it. Everyone has stuck to it since, and it's fab!

myveryownelectrickitten · 15/06/2023 20:48

It’s £5-10 round here for that age. Small Lego/Playmobil set, books or stationery, puzzle or game. I used to look out for nice things in sales - Rex London are good for that!

CasperGutman · 15/06/2023 20:48

Obviously for small group invitations we'd spend more, but during the "whole class party" phase in nursery/infants they've all been very happy indeed with £30 in coins to spend at the toy shop.

wellingtonsandwaffles · 15/06/2023 20:53

£5-10 depending on the friend, sometimes Argos 2 for £15, sometimes a little lego set around £8. I love stocking up in 70% off sales eg Accessorize.

Jubaju · 15/06/2023 20:55

Cineworld gift card (4 might be slightly too young depending on kid)

SchoolShenanigans · 15/06/2023 20:56

£15 usually.

I'd rather spend enough to get something decent than just give toot.

The last party my son went to for a child I don't know I bought kinetic sand. Think it was £10. I think it's a great present!

Something retro like Lights Alive think also called Lite Bright now

My kid got 8 packs one year! It's great if you don't have wooden floors, it's really slippy!

Hoppingmad231 · 15/06/2023 21:01

Up to £10 and with it being summer I'd Try get something they can use in garden, gaint snakes and ladders in home bargain £7 or big 10 pin bowling set same price also home bargain.

ContinuousProcrastination · 15/06/2023 21:03

About £12-15 but am time poor so buying on amazon, not always best prices and if i had time/organisation could get equivalent for a tenner by shopping around etc.

caringcarer · 15/06/2023 21:39

I always gave £10 in a card.

lopering · 15/06/2023 22:11

I tend to give something with a RRP of £15-25. But usually spend less than £8 due to getting bargain deals or voucher codes, and stocking up a present drawer.

eurochick · 16/06/2023 03:25

Up to £10 unless a really close friend. Orchard games or craft stuff are good ideas for that age.

DailyEnergyCrisis · 16/06/2023 03:40

Summer t shirt from Next or M&S plus hair clips. Or a lovely quality book. I’m sick of all the plastic and crafting stuff I have nowhere to put. My kids actually enjoy getting practical gifts in amongst the usual crap.

newstart1234 · 16/06/2023 05:50

For my kids, the whole class agreed to buy the 'class present' for the next person of a value of about £25. So a buys for b, b buys for c, c buys for d etc according to when the birthdays fall. Appreciate this takes a bit of organisation but then everyone gets a present and each family only need to spend £25 a year.

apric0t · 16/06/2023 19:38

I have bought all the 4 year old girls one of the new Polly pockets, can usually pick one up from smyths or Argos for around £12
