It's so fucking trite, every time I hear it I want to scream.

Sort it - fine.

Sorted - annoying. Pointlessly out of kilter with the rest of it.

Reminds me of a comment I read once about the road safety message you see about motorbikes - poster said they can’t see ‘Bike, Biker’ without then thinking ‘Bikest’. Neither can I now, and in the same way I get hung up on the sorted/sort of thing whenever I hear this.

MaxwellCat · 15/06/2023 19:12

I thought it was sort it as well

larkstar · 15/06/2023 19:15

I haven't been on a train since the mid-80's so I've no idea what this is about. Who does the "seeing" and the "saying" - passengers - if they see something suspicious or bad behaviour? Who does the "sorting" - the rail network? Seriously - it means nothing to me.

poshme · 15/06/2023 19:15

I agree.

I hate it

Plankingplanks · 15/06/2023 18:57

Yes, it is also really ineffective..... You remeber that bit, but I bet hardly anyone remembers the number you are meant to say it to?

You are correct - I'm on a train as I type and I heard this bloody annoying message not two minutes ago (for about the 20th time today). I still can't for the life of me remember the number I'm supposed to contact...

😮

I was going to suggest investing in good quality noise-cancelling headphones but if it's up in light too... Confused

wildfirewonder · 15/06/2023 20:14

I hate it too. I could bear it a little better if it was see it, say it, sort it but the 'sorted' does my head in.

saraclara · 15/06/2023 20:19

strawberryicecream6464 · 15/06/2023 18:45

It's sort it.
Used to work at a station. Yes, used to say it in my sleep 😴

No it isn't. It's sorted, but in a london accent, so "sortid"

This was an issue when it was forst used, because it sounded as if the BTP were telling passenger to 'sort it' which of course is not the passengers' responsibility.

StationManager · 15/06/2023 20:30

It's mandated by the department for transport that it is played a certain number of times per hour dependant on the current security threat level.
I work on the railway and we aren't allowed to turn these announcements off for that reason.

Devonshiregal · 15/06/2023 20:32

Yes. Especially as I feel it should be see it, say it ,sort it. I know they’re trying to say it will be sorted if you say it…and don’t want to say YOU have to “sort it”. But clearly it would sound better that way. Also see it, say it, sorted only works in certain accents.

it’s also annoying because there shouldn’t be ample opportunities to report bad behaviour etc on the train lines but sadly there is. Rather than silly slogans it would be great if they’d sort their shit out and make the train lines a safe place to be without relying on the rest of us. And clearly we have all seen it said it and it hasn’t been sorted - the lines are still crap. Our journey still littered with dirty carriages and aggressive arseholes.

nightclubs employ security…why can’t they?

Also why do we pay full price (£££) and have to stand? Surely you should get a reduced fare? but that’s separate. Equally annoying though.

The full phrase is something like "If you see something that doesn't look right, report it to a member of staff. If you see it, say it. We'll sort it. See it, say it, sorted."

Augend23 · 15/06/2023 20:40

Both sorted and sort it are annoying. Sorted doesn't fit with the rest of the slogan, and sort it makes it sound like you (the reporter) need to go and sort it out yourself.

MrsTerryPratchett · 15/06/2023 20:45

It's a slant or imperfect rhyme, which is fine if you're the Sex Pistols or Shakespeare but less so if you're these idiots.

Pisses me off too.

turquoisediamond · 15/06/2023 20:52

What's even more stupid about it is that the silly slogan sticks in your mind... but there's no info on how to contact them... it gives you no action of what to do if you do see something. What does "say it" even mean?! Who should you contact?!

I know there's a text number but my point is if they actually thought about what info they wanted you to remember they could have incorporated that into the message.

Yes, exactly that. Thats why it's an imperative to the passenger "see it, say it". Then when that's happened the railway staff or BTP will do whatever needs to be done and it will be sorted.

So the tenses make sense to me.

For listeners of the Tailenders podcast it is of course, "See it, say it, Salford."

Greedybilly · 15/06/2023 21:09

I agree. Gives me the rage. I really, really hate it. Sometimes wonder if I should become a one woman martyr and throw myself on the tracks in an effort to stop them playing it. Told you I hated it.:)

IWFH · 15/06/2023 21:27

I fail to understand why 45% of respondents think I'm being unreasonable.

Try being a train driver and hearing it over and over all day, every day. I'm going to have it engraved on my head stone 🤦‍♀️

Sillybanana · 15/06/2023 21:35

Yes!!! I hate it! To me it grates as it makes no sense. It sounds like they are saying “sort it”

ssd · 15/06/2023 21:43

It still beats the message from charlie and camilla i heard at the royal wedding time

PuppyMonkey · 15/06/2023 21:51

“See it, say it, sort it” would be quite an arsey thing to say really - like they're asking you, the train passenger, to get off your bum to sort out the problem you’ve seen.Grin

LlynTegid · 15/06/2023 21:52

I think it's lost any impact. I'd be very busy if I reported everything that 'does not look right', literally.

Starseeking · 15/06/2023 21:56

The phrase really annoys me too, so you're not alone.
