DD sports day -

Just came back from DD sports day. She's 14 so in secondary school.

Yesterday we received the usual email about sun cream, packed lunches etc and uniform etiquette. They had explicitly said in the email absolutely no cycling shorts, Nike pro's or anything similar. They have to wear the baggy football shorts. If anyone is found wearing them then they will not be allowed to partake in sports day.

This is a bit of a battle with DD because she hates the baggy shorts but begrudgingly wears them for PE and I've said to her over and over again, it's uniform policy and EVERYONE has to abide by the rules so she's not the only one.

Anyway today at sports day I noticed quite a few girls wearing cycling shorts and yet still partaking. But what surprised me the most is that it was the teachers' girls that were wearing cycling shorts, Nike pro's n all! (There's about 5 teachers at the school with children that go - 3 of them are girls)

I know it's a trivial matter especially in todays world but I feel a bit miffed that I have this argument most months with my DD about respecting the rules of the school and yet the teachers' children seem to be excluded from such rules.

AIBU?

of course YANBU

It should be the same rule for all. Unfortunately, there' s nothing you can do, just remind your children that some will always have free pass, and life is not fair.

Children know from Reception that some children have special treatments, it's the same in all the schools, what can you do.

YANBU to be annoyed by it!

Would I BU to email the school?

As you've said life is unfair but it just doesn't sit right with me! I seriously feel to let DD go in with cycling shorts next PE lesson...

I would find that annoying. You could email in and say that it should be one rule for all. I doubt you will get a reply though. I wouldn't send your daughter in wearing cycling shorts as she will be the one who gets punished. Life isn't fair and some people do get preferential treatment.

Parents weren't allowed to attend sports day when my children were at secondary, but it was a large school so maybe that was why.

In primary, I would just send her in cycling shorts, but in secondary, your child will be the one to suffer consequences. You can email, maybe you'll go somewhere.

If all the parents made the same point, maybe there would be an improvement.

@3dogsandarabbit I was surprised DD wanted me to go tbh! I was only one of about 20 parents and the entire school was there.

Perhaps that's why the teachers allowed their children as not that many parents present to moan about it!

Maybe this is why your daughter wanted you to go?
