Bed squeaky - too beautiful to bin!

Im not sure what to do. It’s a beautiful solid oak bed. Inlaws bought it a few years ago for £££ and it was in their guest bedroom. We slept on it several times when visiting, it was perfectly fine. Inlaws have since downsized and moved closer. They gave us the bed. It squeaks from the day we set it up !!! The screws are all fine and tight, mattress sits well.

I feel very sad about binning it. It looks very beautiful. Is there anything else I can try to fix ?

It squeaks when someone sits. Once you lie in it, if you move, it fcuking squeaks!

Have you tried WD40 on all the joints, screws etc. It usually works wonders on squeaky things.

Some suggestions...

WD40 as above

Put talc in the joints

Take it apart and remake it, but swap the sides over so they're on the opposite sides to how you have it now. It may be that your in-laws had them that way, so its not sitting how is been 'bedded in' (no pun) for the majority of its life.

Take it apart. Buy sheets of thin craft foam (Hobbycraft, The Range, etc) and cut pieces to act as buffer or dampeners between the joints. (4 corners and also possibly around the ends of the struts) I've used small bits of carpet offcuts on metal beds before which worked perfectly.

We had this with our wood bed. Take off the mattress and identify where the squeak is coming from and then add a later of padding - I used an old t- shirt. It was instantly squeak free and has remained thus for 10 years.

Get some proper wood wax and apply it to all the areas where wood contacts wood. I'd probably do the screws as well in preference to WD40 as it will last longer.

Get some felt sheets from a craft shop. Cut them to over the dowels/ between the screw fittings etc. then tighten it as much as you can. Fixed ours up a treat!
