What shoes should my little one be wearing?

Feel silly asking this but dd is 14 months old and not yet walking but she can pull herself up and maybe take a few steps while holding hands. She has pram shoes but they are neither use nor ornament. More often than not she pulls them off and loses one or both.

I went to Clark's to see about some sandals for her but as she isn't walking yet they said she needed 'pre walking' shoes and then 'walking' shoes once she's on her feet. I don't really want to buy expensive shoes twice when she's not even walking yet!

I've ordered her some supermarket sandals but they haven't arrived yet so today she's just gone to nursery in socks!! I feel really bad about it now. But I've nothing else to put her in. She spends most of her time barefoot at home.

Is it really this complicated?! What should be wearing at this stage?

I used those moccasin sock things before they could properly walk for a bit of extra protection. No real shoes until they could walk amd they absolute hated shoes to begin with.

She shouldn’t have any shoes until she’s been walking confidently for 6 weeks as it will affect her development.

we also put her in these quite thick trainer socks from Boyes that were ideal to give her feet some protection round the house/ nursery when they weren’t outside

Clarks will try to sell you shoes as early as possible, but it's better for foot development to wait till she's walking.

I wouldn't bother with any yet.

I'll echo what many others have said- bare feet is fine! In terms of pre walker shoes, both mine started with a pair of bobux xplorer (great value sale ones below!) which were fine once they were walking properly too, they only needed something more substantial when winter came.
