Why is my body giving up?!

Slightly dramatic title but it certainly feels that way. I grew up rurally and surrounded by grass, hay, straw, dust, animal manure, bugs, trees, flowers etc. I never had any problems, not even a slightly runny eye. We don’t have any problems with atopy in the family either.

then I hit my 20s and it all changed overnight, literally.

psoriasis- previously had no skin problems. Started suddenly when I was 20 and is really severe now. I’m under dermatology who are struggling to control it

hayfever- NEVER had a problem with it before. Fexofenadine 120 is helping slightly but I’m still constantly itchy and my nose is blocked and my chest feels heavy

asthma- started at the same time as psoriasis. It was well controlled with 4 puffs of luforbec a day, but hayfever season has ruined that. I’m using my blue inhaler much more now and keep getting horrible wheezy episodes

ibs- I spend the majority of my time with diarrhoea, anal fissures, bleeding. bloating and cramps. I’ve had bloods, ultrasound and scopes and all clear so just IBS. FODMAP and every exclusion diet available has made 0 difference whatsoever. Probiotics were no help. I just live alongside it now

wtf did this all start when I’ve had a childhood of no problems whatsoever? My diet and lifestyle is healthy and I’ve tried all the fad diets which apparently help atopy and none of its worked. I’ve been told it’s nothing to do with my lifestyle or diet and sometimes these things just happen

it’s so frustrating. Has anyone else experienced similar?

My body is giving up. I'm a bit older (42).
I used to be young and cool but now I have to sleep with a knee pillow for sciatica and a wrist splint for carpal tunnel. How is this crappy body supposed to last me another 30 years?

I sympathise entirely. I suddenly developed Asthma and hay fever at the age of 36 (Now 64). Two months ago, I was diagnosed with Vasculitis (an autoimmune disease). IBS must make your life very difficult. Are you on tablets for it?

Endofroadwhatnext · 14/06/2023 10:39

OP have you been tested for autoantibodies? To see if there is a ‘connection’ between all of your symptoms? If not please ask your gp to do an ANA autoantibody panel. I have a weird collection of symptoms and have mixed connective tissue disease.

Have you had your Vitamin D level checked?

I can’t comment on anything except the IBS. I had this for about 25 years to varying degrees and sometimes it was severe and limited being able to live normally. However, a few years go I needed to lose weight and started following a low carb/high protein diet and within days the loose bowels and stomach pains, wind etc pretty much stopped. I did a bit of reading and I think it’s cutting out all the crap carbs like pasta, rice, bread, cous cous as well as cakes and biscuits. Perhaps worth looking into even though you say you’re done FODMAP etc as I’ve seen online a lot of people saying low carb has helped their IBS.

Ooh I'm following... I suddenly came out with psoriasis and since then no end of issues. I'm being test for an autoimmune blood clotting disorder tomorrow which may have caused my infertility problems... if so dunno if it could be the culprit of developing all these other things? Online the condition says it can be triggered by the pill and it does coincide with when I started it? So perhaps you have some sort of autoimmune problem??? I too developed hay fever in last few years :( but hay fever is so common in my family so could be coincidence xx

I know it's bonkers but have you tried the all beef diet a la Bear Grylls?

AriannasGuitarCase · 14/06/2023 19:47

Also, look into SIBO, it may be the cause of your IBS and when it becomes chronic, it can cause all sorts of health problems
