WWYD?
Single mum, DD is 9

  1. Option 1: leave toxic workplace, do an intra company transfer do another country where I know the team well and would thrive. My parents live near ish there and my best friend from school. This would destroy my DD's dreams and mental health. She doesn't speak.the foreign language (I do).
  1. Option 2: stay here, allow my DD to progress in her elite sport training and work towards her dreams. This training is only available in the UK where she is already recognised as a significant talent. It will destroy my mental health.

Why will it destroy your MH to stay OP? Could you look for another job to get a better working environment? Is there anything else going on?

Personally I'd be reluctant to take my child away to a country where she doesn't speak the language, and away from her sport and training if she has a significant talent that is being recognised.

Option 2. 100%

However, you also need to look after yourself. Find a different job. Build a network of friends. Put aside money (if possible) so that you can travel to your mum and friend regularly. Have a plan to make this happen, don't leave it to chance.

Find a way to do this without resenting your DD for the sacrifices you're making for her.

TokyoSushi · 13/06/2023 22:06

There's got to be more options than that. Can you do option 2 but look for another job?

AtrociousCircumstance · 13/06/2023 22:07

Option 3: look for and find another job where you are.

Pippa12 · 13/06/2023 22:14

How old is your child?

parietal · 13/06/2023 22:17

Option 1. Dd is young enough to adapt and learn a language and get good at a new sport. You shouldn't pin everything for both of you on her success in a sport because the chances of injury or dropping out are always v high.

Option 3 - find another role in the company 8n this country and move away from toxic team

Option 4 - find another job in another company in this country

Option 5 - stick it out for a year while DD does language lessons and prepare her for a move at a slightly later point

Options 6 - address toxic workplace issues via HR process and improve your existing role

FlyingSoap · 13/06/2023 22:41

@FatAgainItsLettuceTime Option 4 is always an option for you OP can’t you just do that? Everyone’s a winner then.
