Eye injury - To not go to the a&e?

Hi, I hate going to the hospital or the gp and will do anything to avoid it, and I’d be so appreciative if anyone has any advice for me!

I hit my eye on my car door, it violently swung back and the corner of the door hit me right in the eye with some force. Awful. I had just been shopping and had some frozen beans so I was able to instantly apply that as a cooling pack.

the eye looks normal but is sore, and my vision is just a little blurry. No flashes of light or patches of darkness in my field of vision. No photosensitivity.

please tell me that I can let this heal/recover on it’s own? Any red flags which would prompt a call to the gp? Really really don’t want to go but obviously don’t want to compromise my vision if that’s a risk.

You have to consider whether you are willing to risk your sight.

Many of us hate hospitals. However I would want my eye checked.

As your vision is blurry I would get it looked at.
If you can't face a&e then an optician appointment tomo. If they find anything wrong they can then refer you urgently to the eye clinic.

With blurry vision and a head (eye) injury you should be seen.

Blurry vision can indicate a detached retina so I would definitely be going to A&E if it were me.

I normally play down injuries and am always 😮 at how often people on here are advised to go to A&E....
But your vision is blurry - get yourself to A&E!

Blurry vision sounds like a red flag in the circumstances. Unless you fancy risking your eyesight, best to get checked out at A&E (unless you're lucky enough to have a local eye A&E, in which case go there) tonight.

I honestly think you should go to A&E, but if you really won't go, then try Specsavers in the morning.

Agree you have to get checked but go to a specialist eye emergency centre. They'll have the proper equipment there. Otherwise you could spend 12 hours in a&e and come out with no more than a referral to a specialist centre, which you could do yourself by phoning them.

I'll caveat this by saying I am wildly cavalier about my own body is this kind of scenario; nobody else's, just my own.

I hit my eye on the car door years ago, it was hard enough that it ricocheted my head back and stumbled backwards. It was very sore and a bit blurry the day it happened and then the following day I woke up with a socking great black eye but all sight was fine.

I didn't at any point feel dizzy or sick and I didn't black out etc, which would probably make me think about whether I'd have it looked at a bit more thoroughly. Maybe.

The black eye took about ten days to go and was sizeable. I did regularly feel around my eye socket to make sure there were no sharp pains or similar.

I think if you're a hospital avoider, you tend to know when the time has come, you wouldn't be in a quandary.

Don't piss around with eye injuries. Or head injuries. Particularly not both.

A&E at least, preferably Ophthalmic A&E if there's one in the area.

Go to an optician, they will tell you if you need referring and will send you immediately to hospital if you need to go, and bypass a lot of the bullshit.

Definitely get checked go to your nearest eye casualty, if there is one locally.

My son had a welding injury to his eye and went to an optician they were so good with him, (he’s 21) he was in a lot of pain but they dealt with it and no need for hospital but you’d need to get that seen asap - some areas have eye hospitals call 111 and ask them what you should do?… sounds painful op hope you’re ok

Moorfields eye hospital have an out of hours telephone advice service. May be worth calling them - I think they will refer you to a nearer eye hospital if you aren’t commutable to London and need to be seen

If there is a small pool of blood in the iris then DEFINITELY go to A and E asap.
