Would you go long haul for one week with a toddler

Just curious whether you'd bother travelling long haul with a 2 year old for one week.

I took little one to Mexico when he was 8 months old and we struggled with jet lag a bit so said I wouldn't do it again however temptation is getting the better of me.

He's great on the plane so I'm not too concerned about that but just wondered if you'd go, given the opportunity.

YANBU - yes you'd go.
YABU - No you wouldn't go.

No.

No.

What's your reasons why?

Not for a week. Jet lag for both and the dc's sleep schedule would be my reasoning particularly if I was going straight back to work when I got home.

LiveLaughLoaf · 13/06/2023 15:14

Absolutely not. At that age I think one beach and swimming pool is just like another, whether in Mexico or Europe so why bother with the hassle, expense and jet lag. The only reason we ever took small ones long haul was to visit family. I’d never do it for a holiday.

We'd have two days back home before going back to work/childminders.

We travel often so I don't mind paying the money. And in all honesty, it's only a few hundred pounds more than going somewhere in Europe as it's a last minute booking.

I wouldn't take myself for any long haul over 6 hours for a week! Isn't Mexico 10+ hours? That's a long time tbh and I'm not convinced it's worth it for only a week

Brackenfield · 13/06/2023 15:21

I wouldn't go long haul for a week without a toddler...

PyongyangKipperbang · 13/06/2023 15:21

I wouldn't go long haul for a week o my own, never mind with a toddler. So much hassle for such a short time.

Wakemeuuuup · 13/06/2023 15:22

I wouldn't go long haul for 1 week at any age. You need 2 weeks yo properly relax to make the trip worth it

difficultlemons · 13/06/2023 15:22

Oh god no!
But that might just be because of how my toddler is Grin

WaltzingWaters · 13/06/2023 15:25

For two weeks, yes. One week, I think it’s too much hassle. But I’d say that for myself also (and I love travelling!)

Dinoswearunderpants · 13/06/2023 15:26

Thanks for the input. I'm so used to travelling with him but must admit I worry about him getting quality sleep so might stick to Europe.

We did Dubai for only four nights before. He slept fine though thankfully.

Not for a week as by the time you're over the jetlag it's time to come back.

TakeMe2Insanity · 13/06/2023 15:32

At 2.5 years we took DC to Tokyo for a week! It was amazing. Around the same age we did Singapore on a different trip. Definitely tire them out before you get on the plane!

cocksstrideintheevening · 13/06/2023 15:33

No not for a week.

Letsdance8188 · 13/06/2023 16:01

I wouldn't go on any holiday anywhere with a 2 year old. It would have been hell.

Suprima · 13/06/2023 16:05

I’d allow for ten days to account for jet lag, but yes- I definitely would. I have a similar trip booked for a 19 month old and am not worried at all. You just have to go with things.

I am currently on holiday with a very mobile 1 year old who can’t play with her toys yet, just wants to kill herself and fling herself off things. It’s a lot- but also absolutely fine and we are having a blast. We’ve travelled with her since she was about 8 weeks- it’s just normal for us.

StopFeckingFaffing · 13/06/2023 16:07

No - I wouldn't go long haul for a week with or without a toddler!

Jugglingitallmum · 13/06/2023 16:10

Also no, I wouldn't even go short haul for 7 nights anymore. The travelling days are intense with young ones that I'd need 11 nights at least to make it worthwhile!

Iwantmyoldnameback · 13/06/2023 16:12

I have never done long haul for just a week but I know a lot do and sort of stay on UK time. I can see that could work as it takes me days to adjust to new timezone.

MAREMCKENNA · 13/06/2023 16:16

For two weeks yes, for one week absolutely not. It'll be exhausting.

Thanks. You should like a travel enthusiastic too.

For context, we travel often and I appreciate being away with toddlers is different but we have zero issues there.

It was more the jetlag question that I had.

I would, my daughter is also a good traveler so i know she could handle it, we just take little naps on arrival to adjust but not too long that we then can't sleep
