Last night DH and I had an argument because he put the heating on in order to dry clothes over the radiators.

We live in a small 2 bedroom flat in central London and it was absolutely boiling - it gave me a bad headache.

I've just popped out to the shop to buy dinner (the washing machine was going when I left) and I've returned to the radiators blasting out heat with clothes over them.

I am so fucking hot. Aibu to think this is madness???

We have a washer/dryer and a rack for drying clothes.

When it’s the middle of winter chuck a bucket of ice water over him and say you just wanted to give him a quick blast.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 12/06/2023 19:33

Its so hot in my house i dont think the thermostat would even click on unless i set it to 30

I am going to remember this!

But the laundry will be dry overnight in this heat?

amylou8 · 12/06/2023 19:44

I don't think you should be leaving him unsupervised anymore!

Sorrynotsorry2 · 12/06/2023 19:59

Wtf

bussteward · 12/06/2023 20:02

Is he a simpleton?

Seas164 · 12/06/2023 20:14

A quick blast? A quick blast of central heating in a central London flat in 27 degree humid weather?

A QUICK BLAST?!!

CatsOnTheChair · 12/06/2023 20:17

Well, our heating has been on today.
The boiler has been serviced.
I wasn't looking forward to coming home, but DH is a good 'un and had opened all the windows.
I sincerely hope the heating won't be back on until the Autumn.

MumblesParty · 12/06/2023 20:20

Bizarre behaviour.

do you have any kind of outdoor space? Hang the clothes on a drying rack outside and they’ll be dry in half an hour!

Verystressedsenmum · 12/06/2023 20:41

I agree with others , I’d kill him .
in this heat I’m pretty sure no jury would convict.

JonahAndTheSnail · 12/06/2023 20:43

He's a nob. I remember living in shared housing in my 20s and ending up on a drip with dehydration during the summer as a housemate insisted on cranking up the central heating during a heatwave to dry her clothes faster! I'd turned the radiator off in my room and opened the windows, but the residual heat from shared areas was insane. It started out as a headache and progressed to vomiting before I got very ill.

BPDprincess · 12/06/2023 20:44

Bloody hell.
I've nearly fainted twice since yesterday. I would die if someone out the heating on!

Twinstudy · 12/06/2023 20:46

A couple of years ago the batteries went in our thermostat during a heatwave and for some reason that meant the heating came on full. It took ages to get the house back to a normal temperature.

I was so mad at the thermostat I was close to chucking it out the window. It's a thermostat and not capable of rational thought so I let it off. I don't think I'd be so lenient with your DH.

mayorofcasterbridge · 12/06/2023 20:48

He's a few sandwiches short of a picnic!!!

SugarGliders · 12/06/2023 19:18

Thank god I am not alone. He genuinely doesn't seem to understand how ridiculous this is. He said, "I just wanted to give it a quick blast."

I'll add, he's not an idiot (even though it pains me to say it) and I have no idea what's got into him.

I've had to take my contact lenses out because my eyes are so dry.

I would call your "D"H a smart idiot. He may be smart enough at some things like his day job, but this same guy hasn't heard of a shower rail?

BlondeFool · 12/06/2023 20:50

Insane.

Get a heated dryer from Lakeland. It's brilliant.

Anoushkaka · 12/06/2023 20:54

I would have smothered him in his sleep.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/06/2023 21:01

No need for violence here. I'd just have turned on my heel and fucked off to an air-conditioned hotel. For the week.

xyz111 · 12/06/2023 21:14

What???? I hung some washing on the clothes Airer last night and they were bone dry this morning.

FavouriteDogMug · 12/06/2023 21:32

Thaat happened to me last night! Spent ages trying to work out wtf was going on.

HaveWeGotAnyCake · 12/06/2023 19:17

Is he insane?! It's been boiling hot weather, why couldn't he have put it on a clothes horse outside?

To be fair small 2 bed flats in Central London probably don't have much outside space.

However this does not stop him opening the windows and hanging the clothes up. They'd have dried so quickly

YADNBU OP. What was he thinking? I can only assume the heat melted his brain

Why get a heated anything in this weather, clothes will dry just being hung up.

TooMuchToDoAndNoTimeAtAll · 12/06/2023 22:10

🤣🤣🤣🤣this is the kind of thing I do when DH isn't looking! I get cold easily! And radiators dry stuff so quickly! (I shall be haing a hot water bottle, two duvets and full PJ's tonight! While DH opens the bloody window and sleeps in his pants! I'd apply have the heating on right now :)

I drive DH nuts! I switch all the lights on, he comes behind switching them off 😁 I fill the kettle to the top up (drives DH insane!), He tips half out!

I know I'm in the wrong! So is your partner, OP!!!

(I don't know why I'm like this. I think we were freezing as kids, not enough money for food or basics! So maybe I'm overcompensating!)
