To be concerned about living near social housing?

Hi,

So before anyone starts with the popcorn emojis or snobbery accusations, I'm well aware I'm going to offend some people by asking this question and whereas I'm not happy about that, I could really do with some advice and experiences, so I've decided to ask a controversial question.

I should also make it clear that I'm fully aware that the majority of people living in SH are not anti social arseholes - I have friends in SH. I have also had issues with neighbours who own their house or rent privately. I know SH doesn't automatically equate to issues.

However, statistically speaking, there are more issues with anti social behaviour in SH areas, disproportionately so, so am I really being unreasonable for being concerned about moving to a road which has SH?

Thanks.

I wouldn't, I live on an entirely owned street however behind us are three social housing homes.
To cut a long story short the housing association had to paint my roof with anti vandal paint to protect my property from the 12 year old kid that lived there!
Both he and his brother were an absolute menace, their mother wasn't awful but she was clearly a few sandwiches short of a picnic.
Enough people on my street complained to their housing association about them that they were re housed in a town about 20 minutes away from us.
It has been peaceful again since they have gone.

I can so relate to this! If I walk 2 mins from my flat, it’s all cool pubs and hipster coffee shops full of lovely, lively people who are well-mannered and lead interesting lives. Some of my (SH) neighbours are honestly among the rudest, dullest and most miserable people I have come across.

I really hope you’re being sarcastic. On the off chance that you’re not, I wonder whether it has occurred to you that they’ve probably got the raving hump because the community that they’ve probably lived in for generations has been gentrified by you and these ‘lovely, lively people’ who have priced the locals out of the market, meaning only people who had SH have been able to stay there. Their much loved local pubs have been turned from community hubs into gimmicky cliches where nobody knows you and a pint costs the same as a week abroad (and good luck finding one that hasn’t been brewed independently by Harvey, Ollie and James using a loan from daddy’s chums at the golf club). Their local market has gone from a place to get your shopping done on a Saturday morning to being utterly pointless unless you need macrame wall hangings. Their local cafes have now become twat magnets serving only quinoa flakes or smashed avocado on toast to dickheads whose jeans are three sizes too small. And, whereas before, everyone knew everyone and you could get a decent bacon sandwich and a cup of tea for a couple of quid, they’re now surrounded by gluten free vegans who have degrees in social media and who moved to London to work in marketing, looking down on them because they aren’t impressed at how their community has been destroyed. And you can’t get a loaf of bread for under £6 that isn’t filled with bird seed.

A local housing association owns three houses opposite me, the current occupiers are lovely but we had a nightmare 10 years with a previous occupier (drug dealing, antisocial behaviour, old cars dumped on the front lawn etc) I lost count of how many times he was arrested. Thankfully he’s gone now and the HA sold the house to a lovely lady.
in a nearby town there’s a big estate run by the same HA and it’s specifically for troublesome tenants, a complete no-go area where the police patrol in threes and the HA have security guards when they visit. My friend who works for the same HA says managing it is a struggle.

You don't need stats, it's not rocket science! 🙄

You do if you want to state this as fact rather than a guess, which is what @Brefugee was doing.

I most certainly do need stats of people like you are going to accuse people who live in social housing of being so antisocial that the moneyd classes would have an attack of the vapours if they had to live anywhere near them.

Just listen to yourselves.

If it's so clear cut: show me the stats.

People who buy their houses cause noise, break the law, and do a whole host of other things, if you are naive enough to think otherwise then that's on you.

Ok. I was explaining my experience of it and why I'd not move close to council housing again..
