To report these parents for "minor" traffic offences

I may be extra grumpy because I am hot. Also because cars don't seem to stop at zebra crossings anymore so I am annoyed at drivers in general (I am also a driver).

I am sick to death of parents parking on the zig zags outside my child's school. One way narrow street. Large city school, small catchment. Lazy parents parking wherever the F they like.

Yes there may be hidden disabilities etc but I bet there's not (and even then the zig zags are there for a reasons). The headteacher asks them to move (and apologies for doing so Confused).

WIBU to surreptitiously take photos and report them to who? The local police/ the council? I want a traffic warden to make this his regular route and ticket the buggers. Or at least deter them for a while.

Thankfully I only pick up twice a week so my blood pressure isn't raised everyday.

I think it's either the police or the local council depending on the exact type of signage that's there.

I requested traffic wardens to my kids school after nearly seeing a badly parked car nearly reverse into a child. I was told it was all private companies now but they'd add it to the list

Yes our local council sends a traffic officer of complaints are made and they go out and ticket/warn people. I think you should report them

RoseslnTheHospital · 12/06/2023 16:37

My local council website has details on who to contact about issues around school parking, yours will likely have similar.

Inkypot · 12/06/2023 16:37

No you are not being unreasonable (I'm on the app and can't vote, sorry)
I have a hidden disability as does my son and we do not park on zig zags etc. We park a little further away and take our time getting along the road to the school.
There is no excuse whatsoever so yes report it.

School zig zags can be advisory or enforceable. If they are enforceable, there will be a yellow sign with times on - will usually be to cover the start and end of school day. This is because there will be a traffic regulation order on the zig zags. As to who enforces, could be the police or the council? Which enforce double yellow lines in your area?

Very annoying issue, it’s good the head teacher is proactive, even though she’s got no powers to enforce.

Good luck getting the Police to give a fuck about this or any other kind of minor crime - see also the millions of illegal number plates, illegally loud exhausts, illegally tinted windows, anti social driving and racing on the roads that they are ignoring.

Blarn · 12/06/2023 17:05

The zig zags not not advisory. A sign means that inside those hours its parking wardens or civil enforcement. No sign or outside the times on a sign means it is police.

The zig zags mean don't park there, its that simple. A reception child was ran over outside our school a few weeks ago. By constantly bothering the police, council and school you might get something done, nothing will change if no one raises it.

Take photos and send them to the local council. Lazy parents used to park on the zigzags at my kids primary. They sent a warden down at 9am and again at 315 pm and ticketed the lot of them. There was an immediate 100% improvement. The zigzags are not there to make the road look pretty, they are there for the safety of the children

Thanks all. I shall make enquiries. I'm prepared to become a nuisance for a while.

What message does it send children if their parents just can't be bothered to abide by some basic rules? Screw everyone else's child as long as you don't have to walk?!

Don't get me those drivers who just zoom past me and my child at the zebra crossing close to the school. It really scares me.
