F*cking agony! sprained knee

Hi,

hope someone can help. I sprained my knee around 4 months ago now after I was thrown off my horse. At the time I didn’t seek medical help as it wasn’t too bad, but the symptoms actually got worse as time went on and I started to worry about a torn meniscus etc. I was recommended to get an MRI so I did privately last week (around 19 weeks after the initial injury) thankfully nothing is torn and my acl, pcl and meniscus are all intact. However it was noted that the patella was laterally tilted a little bit, and there was a joint effusion and the ACL had subchondral oedema at the tibial plateau. There was bony oedema seen at the insertion of the distal ACL of the tibial plateau. it said on the report that all these results were consistent with a sprain.

does anyone have any experience with a sprained knee? Does it get easier? I’ve only ever sprained my ankle before and never had trouble beyond 6-12 weeks afterwards but this is awful. Just wondered if anyone else has experienced a sprained knee before and can offer any tips, wisdom or advice please! Many thanks x

Ask around for a good osteopath or physio, knees are tricky full sympathy.

Knees are a nightmare (she says living with chronic pain but has learned to deal with to put off having a knee replacement for a few more years). When sitting keep your leg elevated, don't kneel on the floor, avoid doing the twist, wear a tubigrip or proper knee support, don't keep it in the same position for too long, use ice packs, take co-codamol (if you can) at night as it helps prevent your knee 'locking', physio will give some useful exercises. I hope it gets better soon.

I keep twisting my knee so when it feels weaker I've been using a knee brace for a few days and it seems to help stabilise it...until the next time I twist getting up from the dinner table grrrrr. Would something like that help in the mean time?

I skidded on garden path and did something to my knee, no idea what as i never go to Doctors, it took 8 months to get right and was agony. Eventually I got some cherry capsules as read that it was a natural anti-inflammatory that sportsmen used after injury. It got better......could gave been coincidence but worth a try🤷‍♀️
