Bigbumbetty · 09/06/2023 20:48

So I’m getting a lift tomorow, im
very overweight (23 stone) and I’m worried I won’t fit in the back and the belt won’t go round. Any reassurances ?

We have a Tesla, you’ll have plenty space. They are surprisingly spacious.

my husband is 6’2 and 18 stone and loves his Tesla!

malmi · 09/06/2023 21:18

Unless it's a Roadster you should be fine

they really aren't spacious, three children barely fit across the back of their dads one and one has to squish forward for the other to put on their seatbelt or hang their bum out the door for the others to do this and there's not much knee room. horrible plasticky tat cars

KarmaStar · 09/06/2023 22:16

You'll be fine.
Try not to worry .

Mvn · 09/06/2023 22:18

You should be fine but condolences for having to set foot in a Tesla.

Waxlyrically · 09/06/2023 22:27

My model 3 has plenty of space. It is not a small car by any stretch & you will be quite comfortable. The other models are even roomier.

Onheretoomuch · 09/06/2023 22:50

Loads of space in every model of Tesla. Enjoy the ride. So smooth and quiet!!

You must have gigantic children, my team mates tesla had three props weighing on average 95kg each on Thursday, no struggles with seatbelts, legroom or being able to shut doors.

VikingsandDragons · 09/06/2023 23:42

You'll be absolutely fine, it would be squished if there were 3 of you, but there's plenty of space in the back, I've had 3 broad shouldered 6ft+ blokes in the back of mine and frequently have 3 high backed stage 3 car seats in there, the model Y is one of the widest cars on the Uk roads so it feels really spacious. I can't comment on the model 3 though, it's smaller but I don't think hugely so.

Bigbumbetty · 09/06/2023 23:44

therewill Be 2 other people in the back! I’m worried yhe seatbelts won’t fit round me but can’t find any measurements online!

AlfietheSchnauzer · 09/06/2023 23:46

Who has told you this OP? That you wouldn't fit??? I'm roughly the same weight as you (thanks, medication 👍🏻) and I've never ever struggled to fit into any car. Though I'm usually the driver.
I never once sat in the back of my Audi Q2 or my new Ford Puma. Was funk issue in the driving seat, plenty of room for me, my belly, the steering wheel & a decent gap Smile

Ignore whichever bully put this thought in your head

I've never ever had any issue with any seatbelts and like I said, I'm the same weight as you

As long as you use the seatbelt right OP, you will be absolutely fine. We have a Tesla model X and I was almost exactly your weight. My husband was almost 30 stone when he had his first Tesla and was also fine.

The really important thing is that you don't fully extend the seatbelt when you plug it in. It would probably be your natural reaction to pull it out as far as possible but if you do that it will act like a boa constrictor and keep pulling you in! It's designed that way so it can be used to hold child seats securely, but it's not ideal for a fat person trying to get comfy - trust me!

If you extend it gently as far as you need, but without fully extending it (maybe ask if you can get in first and plug your belt in before the others get in?) then you will be just fine. If you happen to fully extend it by mistake, just let it go all the way back in and pull it out again.

As someone who almost made her husband send the car back before I learnt this, believe me that it's a game changer!

lovemelongtime · 10/06/2023 08:53

You might want to approach your friend and say you're worried ahead of the trip, c and could you possibly sit in the front?
Why squash in the back unnecessarily

Hoppinggreen · 10/06/2023 08:58

I’ve got a model 3, it’s pretty spacious.
Im swapping for a model Y though as it’s a hatchback so I can get the dog in

Murdoch1949 · 10/06/2023 09:56

Could you talk to the driver about your concern and the option of having the front passenger seat? 3 adults in the rear seat is never a good option. Don't get worked up about it, on the day it will be sorted out with friendship and a shove.

DisquietintheRanks · 10/06/2023 10:00

Tbf 3 adults is a squeeze in the back of lots of cars, when one if those adults is very large I can see there may be problems. If there are though, maybe you'll get offered the passenger seat.

May I ask why? Was considering getting one, are they not good?

sevenbyseven · 10/06/2023 10:27

It's an American car, and they're no smaller than us Brits. The front seat might be more comfortable though if that's an option?

Ha yes! I was squished in the middle of the back seat of a Tesla Model 3 taxi between my two huge sons (one of whom is a powerlifter). Never again.

There seems to be some reverse snobbery about them for some reason.
To be fair I didn’t love them until I got one on lease (mainly to shut DH up). I absolutely love it now, we have been test driving a few ev cars and I prefer to Tesla to all of them so far. I have a 3 but will be swapping for a Y for a bit more room

Waxlyrically · 10/06/2023 12:01

Derailing the thread a bit but there is a lot of Tesla hate around which I don't get. It's the nicest car to drive I've ever had. I also don't think they are a pretentious/status type car so can't see it being that.

Would love to know if the haters are ex Tesla drivers and what it is they didn't get on with.

Are the three children in question adult rugby players?

I don't hate them, they are ugly as sin and only seem to come in white, so boring too. I love quirky cars and have a mint green nissan Figaro and a yellow Suzuki Cappuccino so they don't appeal to my idea of being a fun car.
