The Festival Community?

Thinking of ways to spend the summer with my young daughter and a friend mentioned festivals. He said there is likely a community of people who go every year to a few.

Does anyone know any decent festivals for kids aged around 8?

We are going away this year but next I want to see about this type of thing instead and maybe it could become our regular thing we do together as she grows up.

Ideas please?

Camp Bestival, Womad, Latitude are probably the most family-friendly of the big festivals. There’s a lot of smaller more local festivals which are worth looking into though, not least as they are usually much cheaper!

Yes, I'd be interested to hear about these but will have a look too.
Thanks.

Camper Calling festival In Warwickshire is a family festival every August bank holiday. Very child friendly and you can take all your own food and drinks to keep costs down.

Bluedot is great but a bit pricey if you buy food there. Nice mix of music and science.

Camp bestival
Kendal calling
Smaller-Standon calling
And Latitude at the best ones with kids in my experience.

Would help to know roughly where you are? There are several smaller festivals in my county every summer and I'm sure that must be the same else where.

Green Man was fantastic with DC but sold out pretty much instantly. Cambridge Folk Festival is a really nice smaller one.

This year we're trying Solfest, in Cumbria - their kids area looks excellent. I also really liked the look of Bearded Theory, don't know if there are still tickets for that?

Most smaller, cheaper, lesser known local festivals are likely to be very family friendly too.

Whatever you do don't touch Reading or Leeds with a bargepole. They attract a very different crowd.

We took the kids to Carfest North last year and they loved it - even though it spent a fair proportion of the time pissing down with rain. Very family oriented and loads of things for them to do. Don't be too distracted by the name as it's changed over the years and the cars are a relatively minor part now. Kids' highlight was getting smacked on the head with an inflatable hammer by Chris Evans while watching Dick & Dom do a DJ set <shrugging emoji!>

Would go back but they're only doing one this year and it's during our school term time

Full of lentil weavers and anti-vaxxers with gender neutral bairns, I'll wager!

We go to Shrewsbury festival which is in the bank holiday weekend in august - lots of families there with different age ranges of children
